Women’s Week Rolls On! Big Mama Thornton is our Tuesday Bluesday Artist, and Aretha is in The Spotlight A Bit Later, Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s Women’s Week and we’re paying homage today to two women pioneers in music. Elvis wasn’t the first to sing Hound Dog.

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up!

11:00 a.m.   Tuesday Bluesday! Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton with the Muddy Waters Blues Band (1966)   NEW!

Big Mama was the real deal. She sang Lieber & Stoller’s Hound Dog back in 1953, three years before Elvis hit the airwaves with the song, and made rock n’ roll history. Not only did she sing, but she played the drums and the harmonica. The pioneers of rock & roll? They know it all started with the blues and gospel. In case you haven’t figured it out, Black Music Matters.

3:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: Western Wall: The Tuscon Sessions by Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris

If you’ve overlooked this album, shame on you. That’s all I’m saying. You have at least two more airings after today to rectify that little hole in your musical life.

7:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Aretha Franklin   NEW!

The Queen of Soul takes her turn in The Spotlight for the first time during Women’s Week, and it won’t be the last. We promise.

Listen, we added a bunch of listeners from Serbia last week. They’ve been back every day. What’s wrong with the U.S.? Bad taste in music? Perhaps, you like DJ’s with diahrrhea of the mouth. Perhaps you like continual commercials. Whatever.

Women’s Week Continues With Emmylou Harris and Amy Winehouse; The New Inner Sanctum Debuts, Monday, July 20, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We continue on with Women’s Week here in The Mermaid Lounge. No other radio venue we know gives women a decent platform. Women aren’t afterthoughts here on #BecomeUngovernable Radio.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.   The Inner Sanctum: The Skull That Walked    NEW SPOOKTACULAR!

The first airing of our new Inner Sanctum episode.

2:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of Emmylou Harris

A very nice retrospective of Emmylou’s repertoire, which is extensive and defies all the rules. That’s why we love her here in the lounge.

7:00 p.m.     Amy Winehouse Live From Porchester Hall, London, March 8, 2007   NEW!

When Amy Winehouse passed in 2011, she became yet another member of the ’27 Club’ of talented musicians who have died before their time. She joins Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and many others. She is in good company, but we wish she weren’t.

Oh, well, it’s good day in hell. Who said that? You need to join us today. We are totally free. I know you don’t believe me, but you can prove it to yourselves very easily by clicking on the link below. Listening is believing.

We Open Women’s Week With Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and The Queens of Soul, Sunday, July 19, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re kicking off Women’s Week with a final Ronstadt Birthday Bash concert and a set from the Queens of Soul. Western Wall: The Tucson Sessiions debuts as our Album of the Week.

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

11:00 a.m.   Album of the Week: Western Wall, The Tuscon Sessions by Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris   NEW!

Two friends got together to sing, and the result was this most amazing album. It was the only tour I missed due to  my partner’s illness at the time. It was hard for me to part with those tickets. On the bright side, I gave them to Ronstadt fans…my sister and her husband.

3:00 p.m.     Linda Ronstadt Live at The Orpheum Theater in Boston, May 14, 1995   NEW!

I did not miss this one though, and it was one of the most amazing performances Linda Ronstadt ever delivered. The Orpheum may be old, but it’s a great sounding venue. Valerie Carter opened this show and then joined Ronstadt on stage during her show. This incredible set list is up under the Playlist tab. Just scroll to the bottom.

Note: We will be featuring Valerie Carter on Wednesday.

7:00 p.m.    The Queens of Soul, Volume 1: Various Artists

Hear Carla Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Little Eva, Ann Peebles, The Supremes, The Ronettes and many others!

Today should be the day you tune us in. No other radio station I know gives women a platform like this one, not even Sirius-XM. And unlike many others, we’re totally free. We don’t even ask for a credit card.

Good Morning, Ungovernables! It’s a busy day here, music lovers! We’re getting ready to kick off Women’s Week tomorrow on #BecomeUngovernable Radio, so tune us in!

Allman Bros with Eric Clapton

Here’s your line up!

11:00 a.m.   The Allman Brothers Band Live With Eric Clapton, March 19, 2009

The blues from the blues masters right here. There’s a reason why these guys have lasted decades.

4:00 p.m.    Album of The Week: Déja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Crosby, Stills, Nash & (sometimes) Young, along with their 1970 masterpiece, helped me survive the disco generation. There were others. You hear them on this station daily. This is the final airing; there will be a new choice tomorrow!

7:00 p.m.    Linda Ronstadt: The Ballads   NEW!

Here’s another of those artists that I mentioned above. There should be a formal warning with this playlist: There are songs here where Ronstadt’s unparalleled voice will literally blow your doors off.

10:00 p.m.   Live Dead! The Grateful Dead Live at The Rainbow Theater, London, October 6, 1981   NEW!

Another soundboard recording of a great Dead concert, this time from the Rainbow Theater in London!

You have no idea what you are missing here: 24/7 streaming of the best music possible with no commercial interruptions, no political talk, no bullshit. All free every single day. What are you waiting for?

The J. Geils Band in The Spotlight, a New R & B Playlist, and the Latest ‘Inner Sanctum’ on Monday, July 13, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We’re back on Monday…not our favorite day of the week. But hey, the music more than makes up for it today!

J. Geils Band

Here’s your programming for today:

11:00 a.m.   DJ’s Choice: My Favorite 60’s R & B Stream    NEW!

My newest R & B stream should get your ass in gear! Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Supremes, The Miracles, and many more!

The set list is already up under the Playlist tab. Just scroll to the bottom!

4:00 p.m.     The Inner Sanctum: The Melody of Death   NEW!

Gypsys and violins. Both scary items when combined. Trust me on this one, and check out the new Inner Sanctum.

7:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of The J. Geils Band

Hey, Aerosmith isn’t the only game in town here in Boston. We have a bona fide blues band in our history. And we feature them tonight.

It’s a Tuesday Bluesday ALL Day! Joining The Allman Brothers Band are Taj Mahal in The Spotlight, and MOJO As Our Album of the Week, on June 23, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Without really planning this, we have a total Tuesday Bluesday today. If you don’t know the music of Taj Mahal, you have no idea what you’re missing. This would be a good day to find out.

Taj Mahal 68474-5

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up:

11:00 a.m.   Tuesday Bluesday With the Allman Brothers Band, Recorded Live at A & R Studios   NEW!

On August 26, 1971, the legendary Allman Brothers Band hung out at A & R Studios in New York and delivered some great music. We’ve got it here for you in The Mermaid Lounge.

4:00 p.m.     Album of The Week: Mojo by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

This album is the Heartbreakers’ ode to the blues. Tom Petty once said he envisioned all of them sitting in chairs playing and singing the blues together when they got really old. It’s a shame we will never have that experience now.

7:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal (born May 17, 1942) is the stage and recording name of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and accomplished bluesman, Henry Saint Clair Fredericks. I have bumped into several people who don’t know who Taj Mahal is, and I actually feel sorry for them. Mahal has successfully married traditional blues with influences like Cajun, Caribbean rhythms, Latin, reggae, R & B, gospel, and calypso. He’s an amazing gift to music.

Tuesday Bluesday is always a great day to join the ranks here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio. No commercials, politicians, incessant talking, or begging for money. We are totally free and outside the system. We’re right up your alley unless, of course, you prefer to pay through the nose for your music.

Here’s your Sunday Funday line-up:

12:00 p.m.   Album of the Week: Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane  NEW!

The band that pioneered psychedelic rock and cemented the San Francisco Sound back in the day deserves its place in the spotlight on a Sixties Sunday. Jefferson Airplane was also the first band of its genre to achieve commercial success.

3:00 p.m.     The Sixties Rotation, Volume 2: Various Artists   NEW!

The Beatles, The Stones, Dylan, The Dead, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, The Byrds, The Yardbirds, Cream, Vanilla Fudge…and all the rest of the bands that launched an incredible generation of music.

Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan & George Harrison, and Our Album of the Week, June 11, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! Back on the chain gang today (figuratively speaking), with a pretty sweet line-up.

Stevie Wonder

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m.   Album of the Week: Tapestry by Carole King

You can learn more about this great album by clicking on the album cover on the right side of the blog!

3:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Stevie Wonder    NEW!

Blind from birth and raised in inner-city Detroit, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stevie Wonder was an accomplished musician by the age of eight, and recorded his first song at the age of 12. Today, we give him his due.

6:00 p.m.    Bob Dylan & George Harrison Almost Went to See Elvis (1997)

It’s a mystery, folks. According to Harrison, Elvis stood them up. But according Dylan, it was the other way around.

Tune us in: www.tinyurl.com/becomeungovernableradio

It’s Tuesday Bluesday Once Again, and “Tapestry” Returns, Tuesday, June 9, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! We have another light programming day as we prepare for some new programs, and add new music.

The Jeff Beck Group

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up!

12:00 p.m.   Tuesday Bluesday: The Jeff Beck Group Live at The Palace Theater, Waterbury, CT

The “core” of the Jeff Beck Group was guitarist Jeff Beck, vocalist Rod Stewart (yes, that Rod Stewart), and rhythm guitarist Ronnie Wood, with the bassists and drummers changing pretty frequently. Pictured with the three core members is bassist Jet Harris.

5:00 p.m.    Album of the Week: Tapestry by Carole King

The monster 1971 release is back for another airing.

Tune us in, people. We’re free. And we’re free of commercials.

Part 3 of Our Beatles Special, the Music of Irma Thomas, and the Final Airing of “Island of Death,” on Friday, June 5, 2020

Good Morning, Ungovernables! The music never stops here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got some great stuff for you today.

Beatles-Wallpaper-the-beatles-16168642-1044-748

Here’s your Friday line-up:

12:00 p.m.   The Beatles: The Endgame    NEW!

By the this time, the Beatles were barely getting along and, in some cases, were openly warring with each other. In spite of all that, the music remained amazing: The White Album, Abbey Road, Yellow Submarine, and Let It Be are covered here. Other bands from this generation are still recording, but none have had the musical and cultural impact of The Fab Four. We love them here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio.

All of the playlists for this series have been added to the Playlist section of the blog. Just scroll to the bottom.

5:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Irma Thomas

Irma Thomas was a contemporary of Aretha Franklin and Etta James, but — for some unknown reason — never reached their commercial success. Yet Irma Thomas remains an important cog in the R & B wheel, and is recognized as The Soul Queen of New Orleans.

9:00 p.m.    The Inner Sanctum: Island of Death

This is the final airing of this weeks’ episode of The Inner Sanctum. On Monday, there will be a new episode released.

Just click the link below and a new tab will open. A world of musical amazement will open before you. No personal information or credit card required. No commercials. No politicians and no bullshit.
