Sunday Brings Our New AOW by Stephen Stills & Judy Collins and The ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP, November 20, 2022

Good Morning, Sixties Music Lovers! We certainly are all that here in The Mermaid Lounge and today we’ve got the very first playlist and EP that we ever created, along with the 2017 album, Everybody Knows.

Here’s your musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Everybody Knows by Stephen Stills & Judy Collins NEW!

And yes, everybody knows that the two were a “thing” in 1968 into 1969, and that Stephen Stills wrote songs about her, namely Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and Judy. In spite of the fact that Stills has played on several of Collins’ songs, they never made an album together or toured together until 2017, with the release of this collaboration. We’ve got it for you this week.

3:00 p.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

We’re back for another airing of the very first playlist we created, and also the first that morphed into an EP. You’ll hear Del Shannon, Little Eva, The Drifters, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Walker Brothers, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, The Searchers, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Petula Clark, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, The Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, Harry Nilsson, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Blind Faith, Janis Joplin, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Tony Joe White, Barry McGuire, Procol Harum, The Temptations, Fats Domino and more!

Sunday, and a day of rest, and it could be one of the few you get as the all-consuming American public launches itself into what is commonly known as “holiday season,” where y’all watch bad Lifetime TV movies and spend more money than you make. We’ll be here taking the edge off in The Mermaid Lounge. And best of all, we’re FREE.

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got The Temptations With Our New AOW and ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, September 25, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We continue our psychedelic album parade today with The Temptations and take a trip across the pond with ‘The British Are Coming,” an EP with music from the British Invasion and beyond!

Here’s your Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Cloud Nine by The Temptations NEW!

Released in 1969, this album was a turning point for both Motown and The Temptations as they not only added singer Dennis Edwards to replace the departing David Ruffin, and began a partnership with visionary writer-producer Norman Whitfield. Although at least half of the album is in the traditional Temptations R & B style, they began their journey into Psychedelic Soul with the song Cloud Nine and it’s great wah-wah guitar intro courtesy of Dennis Coffey, and especially with Runaway Child, Running Wild.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

We go back to the sixties British Invasion here, but we do not stop there as we include music from our friends across the pond that spans a couple more generations (we’re very selective, however). You’ll hear The Beatles, The Zombies, The Hollies, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Queen, the Dave Clark Five, The Bee Gees, the Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Badfinger, The Yardbirds, Traffic, Elton John, Lulu, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Yes, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, the Spencer Davis Group and more!

This is the place to be, people. We run 24/7 with no commercial interruption. We’re global. We do not employ chatty DJ’s who want to suck up all the air in the room. And we’ve got a Mermaid in control of the music. Yes, she’s The Music Mermaid. Get your shit together and push the button below.

We Made It! Friday is Here and So is Our ‘House’ EP and Some ‘Live’ Flying Burrito Brothers Later, September 23, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s the end of another work week (for most of us; I’ve got one day left) and we’ve got a great day of programming lined up. As always, we are modest in structure. Most of our day is dedicated to that great wide Open Stream.

We kick the day off with our #BecomeUngovernable House EP!

Here’s your end-of-the-week lineup:

11:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Totally inspirational music here for you, folks. The music that inspired the station. Plenty of protest music and plenty of psychedelia. You’ll hear plenty of The Mermaid Lounge favorites with Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Who, The Beatles, Genesis, T-Rex, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

7:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at The Palomino, West Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969

One of the bands at the forefront of the country-rock phenomenon that took root in Laurel Canyon, the breeding ground for two generations of musicians who helped meld country and rock. Tonight we have them live from The Palomino.

This is the place to be today. There is a lot of great music in both the programming and the open stream, and you’ll be under the mesmerizing control of The Music Mermaid. That is significantly better than being under the control of Donald Trump. I think we can all agree on that. We’re totally free. We take no commercial advertising, so there’s no interruption (except for a few modest station I.D.’s from me), and no ‘subscription’ required. Therefore, you need not provide a credit card nor personal information. What more do you want?

We’re at Midweek With the ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP and a Little ‘Live’ Action From The Heartbreakers, Wednesday, September 21, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we’ve got our ‘Original Sixties Rotation’ EP to start off the day, along with some House Band action from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers later. (Hint: Tomorrow it’s that ‘other’ house band.)

Today we’ve got the first playlist we ever made!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

This is the first playlist we ever created, and it was modest at it’s inception. It has since been expanded into a full-blown EP, and has also spawned a second volume. Today, you will hear from Del Shannon, Little Eva, The Drifters, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Walker Bros, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, The Searchers, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Petula Clark, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, The Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, Harry Nilsson, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Blind Faith, Janis Joplin, Tony Joe White, Barry McGuire, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Procol Harum, The Temptations, Fats Domino, and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Coleman Coliseum, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, October 5, 1995

Yes, our eminent House Band on the road in Tuscaloosa on the ‘Dogs With Wings Tour’ in support of the brilliant album, Wildflowers. That ‘dogs with wings’ thing is a line from what happens to be my favorite TPATH song at the moment, It’s Good To Be King. It just sucks me in every time from the first note.

Get in on the midweek fun, people. We’ve got Chile, Greece, Italy, France, the UK, Australia, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Ohio, New York, Kansas, and points beyond on already this morning.

We’re Heading For the Weekend With The Animals, Our ‘Repeat After Me’ Playlist, and Our Album of The Week, Thursday, September 15, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’re on the downslide to the weekend this morning, and we’ve got some great programming on the way!

We’ve got that great British blues-rock band, The Animals, In the Spotlight to start it all off!

Here’s Thursday’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Animals

Nothing like a little Eric Burdon & The Animals to get the blood boiling early. Truly one of the most influential bands in the early days of blues-rock and part of The British Invasion. We love them here in The Mermaid Lounge. We give you this from a book on the subject:

The Animals, thanks in large part to Eric Burdon’s powerful, gritty vocals, were one of the most authentic-sounding rhythm and blues revival groups of the British Invasion. The band was also one of the few First Wave acts to make a successful transition from mainstream pop to progressive rock in the late 1960s.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Electric Music for The Mind and Body by Country Joe & The Fish

We’re on our next-to-last airing of this great psychedelic masterpiece. Saturday will be our final farewell as we move into a brand new psychedelic selection on Sunday.

7:00 p.m. Repeat After Me, Volume One: Various Artists

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and music provides plenty of proof. In this particular volume of Repeat After Me, you’ll hear Aretha Franklin sing Carole King, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers sing The Animals, Tracy Nelson sing Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris sing Simon & Garfunkel, Linda Ronstadt sing Tom Petty, The Beatles sing Barrett Strong, and on and on. It’s a great concept because you get to hear the original and the reboot! Volume Two is tomorrow, and Volume Three is in the works!

This is a fine day to join the fun here in The Mermaid Lounge. We have programming for sure, but the bulk of our day is spent on our wide Open Stream of 27,000+ songs. It’s a challenge to hear a repeat any time during the week. Give us a shot. We’re also completely free, no surprises, no strings.
