Join Us as We Kick Off The Weekend With Petty’s 50 Greatest, Plus Raitt-Browne-Colvin-Hornsby-Lindley-Ingram On Stage, Friday, April 2, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s a fine mix we have here to day for you. The sun is out on this crisp, cool spring day and we have quite a line-up planned.

Coming up this evening, it’s the Dream Team, 1999

Here’s today’s line-up:

12:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: Tom Petty’s 50 Greatest Hits

Yes, it’s all subjective folks. Next week, I could change this up. But for now, these are my Petty favorites, and not just with his mates in The Heartbreakers, but also solo, with the Traveling Wilburys, and with Mudcrutch. Changing it up kept Tom Petty’s creative juices fresh and flowing, and it shows.

7:00 p.m. The Dream Team 1999: Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby, David Lindley, and Wally Ingram, Live at Red Rocks, Morrison, Colorado, September 12, 1999 NEW!

I actually saw this performance myself when it passed through the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts. (Or was it the Comcast Center by then? Well, no matter.) It’s a dream team by anyone’s standards, and it was a fantastic concert. We have a version of this for you here this evening, and we hope you enjoy it.

Tune us in, folks. We’re free and totally outside the system. We do not make a profit. We do not accept advertising. We do not ask for a “subscription” or a credit card.

And for those of you who use Spotify, be advised that it’s now owned by Kanye West. That would be enough for me to forsake my subscription.

We Launch Our ‘Ladies Day Out’ Playlist and ‘Let It Be Naked’ Is Our Album of The Week, Sunday, March 21, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today, we honor the women of popular music with our brand new Ladies Day Out playlist, giving you exactly 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 55 seconds of music from some of the most amazing female singers of our time.

Janis Jopilin is just one of the women we feature today in our new ‘Ladies Day Out’ playlist. Be there at 2:00 p.m.

Here’s Sunday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Let It Be…Naked by The Beatles NEW!

To be sure, Phil Spector was a musical genius, having developed the ‘wall of sound’ used by so many performers. I like the wall of sound enough, but probably not as much as others, I have to confess. The Beatles were on the outs when they recorded Let It Be, and mostly they were not in the studio together during time. Phil Spector produced this album and, rumor has it, that John Lennon brought him the tapes when he was pissed off. The first release of this album was with the wall of souond. Along came Paul McCartney in 2004, convinced that the original release was not what was originally envisioned for the album. The result is this stripped down version, and I tend to concur with McCartney here.

2:00 p.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists NEW!

Women’s music is nothing new to us, but we’ve never had a long-running women’s playlist until this day. Now, we do. Women continue to get the short end of the stick when it comes to rock music. Hell, that infamous pay-to-play radio conglomerate (whose name we shall not mention) offers quite a few individual stations dedicated to the men of rock, but not one single station dedicated to women. In fact, if you tune in any classic rock station, you almost never hear women played at all. But here, you do.

This playlist features many women. We have Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Cilla Black, Carla Thomas, Ann Peebles, Aretha Franklin, Sheryl Crow, Petula Clark, Nicolette Larson, Wendy Waldman, Phoebe Snow, Norah Jones, and many others. Check out the Playlist section of this blog for a complete set list. All you need to do is scroll to the bottom! It should be up on the blog by noon.

This would be an excellent day to tune us in unless, of course, you’re one of those guys who just can’t bear the thought of women in the musical spotlight for an extended period. This would not be your day.

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge! Eva Cassidy Owns Our Album of The Week, and “The British Are Coming” Playlist is Back, March 14, 2021

Good Morning, Weekenders! It’s Sunday (and Daylight Savings Time) here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio, and we’ve got a brand new Album of The Week and our British music playlist makes its monthly return.

Eva Cassidy owns our Album of the Week with “Songbird.”

Here’s today’s programming:

12:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Songbird by Eva Cassidy NEW!

We introduced Eva Cassidy to our line-up earlier in the week, with a live performance. All of her music is now in our Standard Rotation, so it is only fitting that we make her album Songbird our Album of The Week. This was a posthumously-released compilation album, as Eva died from cancer at the age of 33 back in 1996. She was virtually unknown at the time. Since its release, Songbird has gone multi-platinum. We’d like the people everywhere to get to know Eva Cassidy. Music lives forever.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

Our friends from across the pond are back today. We feature the music of the British Invasion and beyond with this great five-hour playlist. Uninterrupted by commercials. Because we don’t run any of that shit. You will hear The Who, Cream, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, Them (featuring Van Morrison), Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Dave Clark Five, The Pretenders, Led Zeppelin, Lulu, Petula Clark, Herman’s Hermits and many more!

Tune us in, folks. It’s a day of rest. And this is the perfect way to pass it. You won’t need a “subscription,” your wallet, or a credit card. All you need is a free computer tab and your index finger to click on the link below.
