Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

Joni Mitchell returned to the Newport Folk Festival after a 53-year absence absolutely electrifying the event. It was a complete and totally unexpected surprise since she had retired from all public performances after her 2015 aneurism. It was her first full concert since 2000. We’ve got it for you this morning.

Good morning, music lovers! We are celebrating summer once again with volume two of our ‘Summer of Love’ playlist but not until we have songs about colors. Later, it’s Chuck Berry.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Color My World: Various Artists

Songs about colors in the title, lyrics or both. In case you thought Paint It Black was only one of a handful of songs, think again. It’s Sunday In The Lounge With Chicago ‘Live’ in Japan, a Hollies Spotlight, and ‘The Founders’ EP Later, June 2, 2024

Good morning, music lovers and welcome to Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge where the living is easy and the music is totally free 24/7.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

Chicago is like a few other bands during my lifetime that have had two lives, like The Doobie Brothers and The Bee Gees. In all cases, we prefer the previous lives. We’re fans of the Terry Kath version of Chicago with its original edginess and creativity, not the Peter Cetera born-again, milquetoast collection of syrupy ballads. Today we have the original band, what I like to call Chicago Transit Authority, live in Japan.

2:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Hollies

Here is another great British Invasion band, and the band that would become one of the most musically influential of its time and spawn other great bands, like Crosby, Stills & Nash. It’s time we turn the Spotlight back on this band.

5:00 p.m. The Founders: Various Artists

This evening we go back to where this rock and roll thing all began with Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

It’s Sunday and We’ve Got Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, and The Founders All On Tap For Today, April 7, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge. We continue to air some of our EP’s in the evening hours just to ensure all this great stuff is available globally to all our listeners.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

We’ve got a great live in-studio performance of Jackson Browne with David Lindley that was broadcast on WPLI-FM in New York to start off the programming.

3:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Stephen Stills

Yeah, there was a lot of drama with CSNY. If you were on Twitter you heard about it. But their greatness cannot be diminished. Neither can the brilliance and influence of a guy named Stephen Stills. He’s In the Spotlight today with CSNY, Manassas and as a solo artist.

8:00 p.m. The Founders: Various Artists

Just who invented rock n’ roll? That’s a tough one because all these folks played a part in that effort. It was not a one-man or -woman event. You’ll hear them all, including Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

At Midweek It’s Rock and Roll’s Founders, Lennon & McCartney, and Live Maria Muldaur, Wednesday, March 6, 2024

Saturday It’s Back To The Roots With ‘The Founders’ EP, Dylan, and The Supremes In The Spotlight, February 10, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We jump into the Wayback Machine this morning and take a trip back to those who made all of this possible; the artists who inspired the music that inspired us. Got that?

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m.  The Founders: Various Artists

This is our newest EP, introduced for the first time on New Year’s Eve 2023. You will hear Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ray Charles, The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters and more!

4:00 p.m.  Album of The Week: Planet Waves by Bob Dylan FINAL AIRING!

Another of our 50th birthday albums takes its final spin today. Tomorrow we’ll have a new birthday disc.

8:00 p.m.  In The Spotlight: Diana Ross & The Supremes

The Supremes were originally founded as The Primettes back in the early 60’s. They would eventually become one of the artists that would help put Motown on the map. Tonight we put them In the Spotlight.

Just think…while I’m laboring away in retail hell, you could be listening to some great music! Today in the Boston area, we’re on track to break temperature records at 59 degrees…in February. Unheard of. Then, according to the weather wonks, it’s a snowstorm on Monday night. I am now leery of such predictions. Nope. But I digress. Join us.

We’re in the Wayback Machine Heading for the Sixties, and We’ve Got Jackson Browne’s AOW, Thursday, January 25, 2024

Good morning, time travelers. We’re headed back to the early sixties today with ‘The Original Sixties Rotation’ EP, and we’ve also got some rare ‘live’ Hendrix.

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m.  The Original Sixties Rotation: Various Artists

Personally speaking, the sixties and early seventies were the best of times in music. It is why I started the station to begin with. This EP features Del Shannon, Little Eva, The Drifters, The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Walker Brothers, Mary Wells, Dusty Springfield, The Searchers, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Petula Clark, Glen Campbell, Johnny Rivers, The Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, Harry Nilsson, The Band, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkel, Blind Faith, Janis Joplin, Chuck Berry, The Temptations, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Bob Dylan, Tony Joe White, Barry McGuire, Fats Domino and more!

4:00 p.m.  Album of The Week: Late For The Sky by Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne’s Late For The Sky, his third studio album, is the first album in our ‘Happy 50th Birthday’ series of albums to open up the new year.

Yes, there’s no venue in the title because this show was held on a farm on the lower slope of the Haleakala volcano on a makeshift stage. The only audience were a few hundred Maui residents who heard the show was happening and showed up. These folks got to see a rare, little-known Hendrix performance. There’s a long story behind how this show came about and why it was so “secret” to begin with. It’s explained here much better than I could ever manage.

On Monday We’ve Got ‘Wheels’, The Beatles Characters and Delbert McClinton As Our Singer-Songwriter, January 22, 2024

Good morning, musicologists and welcome to the first day of yet another work week! We kick off the week with some great playlists in between all that great Open Stream!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Wheels: Various Artists

Since being on the road is a popular song subject, it only follows that cars and modes of transport would be as well. You’ll hear from Chuck Berry, Paul McCartney, Bo Diddley, Joni Mitchell, War, T. Rex, The Who, The Eagles, Janis Joplin, John Prine, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Mudcrutch, The Beatles, Steppenwolf, Wilson Pickett, The Kinks, Alice Cooper and more!

The man in the mack, the barber showing photographs, a lonely person named Eleanor Rigby, a murderous student named Maxwell Silver Hammer, the fool who hangs out on the hill, the banker who doesn’t wear a mack in the pouring rain are all here. And then some.

The amazing Delbert McClinton is an American blues rock-electric blues singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonica player and pianist. He has been at his craft since 1957 and is still active, his most recent album released in 2022. He has won four Grammys, is in the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was honored by the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas with the fifth star in their Walk of Fame. This evening he is most deservedly introduced as this week’s featured singer-songwriter.
