8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Dave Clark Five NEW!

Another great British Invasion band gets its due. Tom Petty used to say that it should be called The Mike Smith Five because he was their great lead vocalist. (Dave Clark was the drummer, of course.) It’s kind of parallel to the J. Geils Band here in the U.S. with the great Peter Wolf on vocals and J. Geils on guitar. But I digress. The Dave Clark Five was the second British Invasion band to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. The first, of course, was The Beatles.

Today we put her ‘In the Spotlight.’

Bob Dylan’s backup band, which he simply referred to as ‘the band’, took on that name and began a career that has made them one of the most influential acts in rock music history. We close out the programming with a live performance from Asbury Park tonight.

Another great supergroup formed by Stephen Stills in 1971 after the ugly breakup of CSNY that was primarily used as a vehicle for his own music. Joining Stills was Chris Hillman, Al Perkins and Byron Berline. Several members of Stills’ touring band joined in on the first recording session as well.
