This is our newest multi-artist blues EP introduced for the first time in January. You’ll hear Ray Charles, Lillian Glinn, Slim Harpo. Fats Domino, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Rodney Harris, Roosevelt Sykes, Shirley & Lee, Roy Brown, Papa Lightfoot, Guitar Slim, Annie Laurie, Fats Matthews, Big Joe Turner, Big Boy Myles, Little Walter, Mary Butler, Erline Harris, Marcia Ball, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, The Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas, Dave Bartholemew and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hot Chili Mama by BeauSoleil

No question about it, Johnny Winter was the most high-energy blues guitarist on the planet, and as we all know, he was true to the blues. But he was more than just that. He was the guy who produced grammy-winning albums for blues great Muddy Waters. Tonight we put Johnny Winter In the Spotlight.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Ode To Morning: Various Artists

We’ve already paid homage to the night this month, so it’s time to do so for the morning with artists like Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Hoyt Axton, The Beatles, The Rascals, Waylon Jennings, Gram Parsons, Joan Baez, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, Ta Mahal, Dan Fogelberg, Harry Chapin, Three Dog Night, Ry Cooder, Tim Buckley, Muddy Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jonathan Edwards, Townes Van Zandt, Pure Prairie League, Bob Dylan, Chris Hillman, Badfinger, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, The Move, Foreigner, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nina Simone and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Bluesiana Triangle by Bluesiana Triangle FINAL AIRING!

The final airing is upon us. This great album by Art Blakey, Dr. John and David “Fathead” Newman will be gone after this airing. Tomorrow we’ll have a new selection for you.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Tom Rush NEW!

Tom Rush is credited with ushering in the singer-songwriter era. Not only is he a songwriter himself, but he helped put several others on the map by singing their songs, most notably Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Tom Rush has been at it for over sixty years. Today he is 82 and still active. I have fond memories of spending his 79th birthday with him at a concert in a church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, his hometown. Tom Rush is a folk, blues, and New England legend. My favorite song by Tom? Kids These Days.

It’s Saturday and that’s always a good day to spend in The Mermaid Lounge. We kick it off early today at 9:00 a.m., so remember to just push the button below as we kick off your morning with songs about morning.

We Keep It Simple on Sunday With Our Surprising New Album of The Week and ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, March 5, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We love it when musicians refuse to be “defined” and Dr. John is one of those guys. Today we have a brand new album featuring Dr. John and two of his friends, along with our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP.

Here’s your laid-back Sunday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Bluesiana Triangle by Art Blakey, Dr. John and David “Fathead” Newman NEW!

I stumbled upon this album several years ago because of my obsession with Dr. John, but it’s conception was really Art Blakey, an American jazz drummer. In addition to Dr. John on piano, guitar and vocals, it features David “Fathead” Newman, a jazz and rhythm & blues saxophonist, who is best known for his work with Ray Charles in the 50’s and early 60’s. The album is a collection of great jazz, blues and funk music that has become one of my favorites.

3:00 p.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

We’re back with our EP about night time (it’s the right time, according to the J. Geils Band). In addition to them, you’ll hear Warren Zevon, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, The Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

Yes, it’s an official day of rest, so kick back and tune us in. Even if you’ve got stuff to do around the house, we make great background music because we run absolutely NO commercial advertising at any time. We also don’t spend a hell of a lot of time talking. We’re all about the music and we’re totally free.

Welcome To Tuesday Bluesday! We’ve Got Our ‘Best of Louisiana Blues’ EP, Edgar Winter’s Tribute to Johnny, and Stevie Ray Vaughn In the Spotlight, February 14, 2023

It’s Tuesday Bluesday once again and we have got ourselves a blues trifecta going on today. All of the programming is blues related. It doesn’t get any better than that. Happy Valentines Day, folks! We LOVE da blues here.

Here’s today’s Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. The Best of Louisiana Blues: Various Artists

When it comes to music, Louisiana is culturally rich on many levels, including the blues. This is our newest blues EP, and you’ll hear familiar voices along with some you may not know, including Ray Charles, Lillian Glinn, Slim Harpo, Fats Domino, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Rodney Harris, Roosevelt Sykes, Shirley & Lee, Roy Brown, Papa Lightfoot, Guitar Slim, Annie Laurie, Fats Matthews, Big Joe Turner, Big Boy Myles, Little Walter, Mary Butler, Erline Harris, Marcia Ball, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, The Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas, Dave Bartholomew and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Brother Johnny by Edgar Winter

We have the second airing of Edgar Winter’s 2023 Grammy winner for Best Contemporary Blues Album, a tribute to the great bluesman and high-energy guitarist Johnny Winter. Not to be missed.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Stevie Ray Vaughan

SRV, as he is lovingly known, is probably best known as the front man for the blues trio Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, but he was more than that. His mainstream career spanned just seven years before his tragic death, but he is on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the blues world. He is one of the most influential artists of the blues genre, and one of its most revered guitarists.

Tuesday Bluesday is always a busy listening day in The Lounge. We’re crowded around the world here. Today will be no exception. Why not give us a listen today? You’ve got nothing to lose, and it won’t cost you a penny. Seriously. Ever.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of David Crosby NEW!

David Crosby passed a couple of days ago at the age of 81. Yeah, he could be caustic at times, but the same is true of Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison. What we prefer to remember is his contribution to the creation of both folk-rock and country-rock, and as a founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash (Neil Young would be added later and was in-and-out of the group over its musical life).Tonight we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

We’ve got a hell of a music lineup for you today. This one is not to be missed. We take a trip to New Orleans and give you two musical geniuses to boot. All free of charge. Your money is absolutely no good here. We’re all about the music and we are on non-stop 24/7, not just when we have programming.

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant Massacree: A Thanksgiving Tradition

This is our fifth year of this great Tradition, all 18 minutes of Arlo Guthrie’s rambling historical narrative of Alice’s Restaurant. Whether the event really happened according to the musical legend or not has been the subject of much discussion over the years. However, it seems that The Berkshire Eagle has finally put the question to bed for all of us. Come join us for this great holiday tradition!

2:00 p.m. Down In New Orleans: Various Artists

We haven’t aired this great EP since sometime in September, but it’s back today for Thanksgiving. Come celebrate Thanksgiving with us here in The Mermaid Lounge. You can’t go wrong. You can kick back after that l-tryptophan kicks in and just chill. We don’t cost you a thing except time. No surprises. I promise,

Saturday Brings Our ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, the Final Airing of Our AOW, and Our New Singer-Songwriter Series, October 15, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We start the day by announcing a new series revolving around singer-songwriters, some of them travel in pairs (Lennon-McCartney, John-Taupin, and some go solo, like James Taylor and Bob Dylan). To accommodate our new series, we are taking a break from our LIVE DEAD! broadcast. But fear not, we’ll move Dead concerts into the regular programming rotation.

We kick off our new Singer-Songwriter Series tonight at 10:00 p.m.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

Once again, we pay homage to the pioneers of the country-rock genre and also to the artists of real country music (not bad pop bands with fiddles). You’ll hear from Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Marshall Tucker Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Mudcrutch, The Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, The Desert Rose Band and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John FINAL AIRING!

This is the final day for Gris-Gris, Dr. John’s debut album combining New Orleans R & B with Psychedelic Voodoo. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a new psychedelic album!

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriters: The Music of Paul Simon NEW!

We put LIVE DEAD! on hiatus for a while and begin our series on Singer-Songwriters in this broadcast hour. You’ll be hearing from some of our regulars, but there’ll be some new additions as well. Every Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. We begin to night with the music of Paul Simon, both as a member of Simon & Garfunkel and as a solo artist.

It’s a Mermaid Lounge Saturday and we begin a new feature this week. We hope you’ll give us a shot and tune us in. We’re totally free every single day of the week, no joining fees, no “subscriptions” required, no personal information asked for, and no surprises. Just push the button below.

We Close With The Heartbreakers, Open With Linda Ronstadt and Give You Our AOW in Between, Thursday, October 13, 2022

We return with our TP Month special today and give you some vintage ‘live’ Linda Ronstadt circa 1974. In between, Dr. John gives us some psychedelic voodoo.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Linda Ronstadt Live at My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel, Roslyn, New York, July 21, 1974

This popular Long Island music venue was a decades-long influence on the music world with many artists passing through its doors. Linda Ronstadt was one of them on her journey to becoming the Queen of Rock in the seventies. We have her 1974 show from that venue today.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Gris-Gris by Dr. John

This album has been described as New Orleans R & B meets Psychedelic Voodoo, and we here in The Mermaid Lounge think that’s a pretty accurate description. Hear it for yourself today!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Paradise, Boston, MA, July 16, 1978

This was the very first time I was introduced to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers ‘live’ anywhere. I spent a lot of my formative years at The Paradise, but this one show stands out quite clearly all these years later. Today we give you the show as it was recorded for airing on Boston’s famous WBCN 104.1 FM radio station (another staple of my youth). This show was in support of the band’s album, You’re Gonna’ Get It.

Come on, folks. It doesn’t get any better than this: Ronstadt and Petty on the same day? Great day to step out of that musical shell and tune us in. We’re totally free. Tune us in and out at any time with no “subscription” requirement. No money changes hands. You’re money is absolutely no good here.
