It’s Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge With Our ‘Psychedelic Express’ EP, Desmond Dekker In The Spotlight, LIVE DEAD! and The Final Airing of Neil Young’s AOW, August 20, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have a very full Saturday here for you but, nevertheless, our wide Open Stream dominates on the time scale. We never give you too much programming…just enough.

It’s time for our monthly trip into the land of psychedelia!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Songs for Judy by Neil Young FINAL AIRING!

We bid Neil Young an early fond farewell today as we kick this one off early for our overseas listeners. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new album for you all when you finally wake up!

12:00 p.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

We’re back with our trip to psychedelic music land where you’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Tommy James & The Shondells, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Mudrutch, Blind Faith, Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Desmond Dekker and The Aces NEW!

Another trip down Reggae Road here with Desmond Dekker, a Jamaican Reggae, Ska and Rocksteady singer-songwriter and musician. Together with his backing band, The Aces, he had one of the first international reggae hits with his song Israelites. I remember hearing that song on the radio over and over and I loved it. But I didn’t really have a total appreciation for Reggae then as I do now.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA, May 12, 1980 NEW!

Another great concert from a great jam band. This one comes from my hometown back in 1980. We’ve had a few from Boston, but not from 1980 yet. Tonight, we’ve got that one too.

Well, once again, allow me to tell you that it would be a great day to spend with us here in The Mermaid Lounge if you can spare some time. It won’t take long for you to get hooked. Trust me. We’re not about charging money so you can build Internet playlists. If you want to do that, you can go pay Spotify. We’re all about being radio. And we don’t clog our airwaves with mouthy DJs and commercial advertising.

It’s Saturday in The Lounge With Our ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, The Final Airing of “Aftermath” and LIVE DEAD! Bringing Up the Rear, August 13, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! We are finally here! (Well, some of us must endure one more retail hell day.) And you certainly are in capable hands with The Music Mermaid today!

It comprises 71% of the earth and is the subject of our musical affection today!

Here’s your musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Water is essential for our survival. So is music. So, we’ll hear from Paul McCartney, Deep Purple Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Johnny Rivers, America, Donovan, and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hasten Down The Wind by Linda Ronstadt FINAL AIRING!

It’s the swan song for this fine album today. It was Linda Ronstadt’s seventh studio release and she stepped out from the country-rock genre just a bit to spread her wings, and many of her Laurel Canyon buddies helped her out on this one. Not to be missed.

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The End Game

The Beatles were only actually in the limelight for about seven years, even though they started singing together in the fifties. They hit their stride here in America when they came to play The Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964, and they never looked back. By 1970, they were done as a group, having accomplished all they could together…including changing the entire face of music. They were brilliant to the bitter end.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Winterland, San Francisco, CA, February 24, 1974

This is a repeat performance, but it hasn’t been aired here since 2020. It’ll be just like new. I promise. Another great soundboard recording from a legendary band in a legendary venue, Winterland.

Saturdays are always chock full of good times here in The Mermaid Lounge. I promise. I mean, you have absolutely not one investment to make that involves money. Your money is no good here. The only investment you have to make is in time. Take a little time to join your friends from around the world, and this one person from Kansas who has been on for days. Are they dead? Or are they just in love with the station? We’ll never know.

We’re cooking here in The Lounge today with The Music Mermaid at the helm. You’ll be in great hands while I spend my final day toiling with the entitled consumer masses. She’s ready and raring to go as we get off to an early start. And remember, we’re always 100%, no-strings-attached, no surprises free. All day every day for eternity.

On Saturday We Bring Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, the Final Airing of “The Royal Scam” and LIVE DEAD! Later, On July 9, 2022

This is a great day to tune us in and get a real feel for what we’re about. Before, in between and all night (we are 24/7), we give you that wide Open Stream. We don’t stop when the programming is over. We keep going.

It’s Saturday and We Have Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, the Final Airing of “American Beauty,” and LIVE DEAD! Later, July 2, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! How the hell are you all this fine, eerily disgustingly humid morning? Well, if you don’t like the soup outside, we give you an opportunity to hunker down with some great music today.

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

Why not make today the day you join your friends from around the globe? You’re never alone, we’re global and there’s always someone tuned in at all hours. That’s because we have great basic principles here: We never air more programming than we do Open Stream; we never charge for a subscription; and we don’t employ DJs who like the sound of their voices more than they do music. Did I mention we’re advertising-free and run 24/7 without interruption. What is not to love here?

Saturday Delivers Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, the Final Airing of “McCartney” and LIVE DEAD! Later, June 25, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s going to be a hot one outside today, and we’ll be matching that in The Mermaid Lounge with some great programming interspersed in all that wide Open Stream.

Cool your jets with ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ starting at 11:00 a.m.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

It’s promising to be a hot one here to day in the Boston area, so we’re inside cooling off with some music about all kinds of water. Mr. Peabody put us in the Wayback Machine for this one, vintage 1969 and another new show added to our list of Live Dead performances.

Here in The Mermaid Lounge, we have two strict rules: We never have more hours of programming than we do Open Stream. And we never charge for the music we play. We also don’t require you fill anything out or provide us with any personal information. Hell, we don’t even track you. We’re too damned busy finding new music.

It’s Saturday with a Happy 80th McCartney Celebration, the Final Airing of Our AOW, Our ‘Folk Music From A-To-Z’ EP and LIVE DEAD! Later, on June 18, 2022

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: American Tune by Eva Cassidy FINAL AIRING!

Today we bid a fond farewell to this week’s Album of The Week by the late, great Eva Cassidy who, unfortunately, didn’t live long enough to see her success. Don’t miss this collection of rehearsal tunes and live performances.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

Today we say happy 80th birthday to a true musical living legend who’s still rocking away on his ‘Got Back’ tour. We’ve got Beatles’ stuff, solo performances, his stint with Wings…it’s all here for a couple of hours tonight.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Summer Jam, Watkins Glen, New York, July 28, 1973

Tonight’s LIVE DEAD! is a rare repeat, but it hasn’t been aired since 2020, so it should sound just like new to those of you who aren’t Deadheads (and they don’t care how many times they hear a Grateful Dead show; it’s all new to them).

We’re chock full of stuff today and we think you’ll like it. There’s no better way to kick start your weekend than with the little radio station that could. (I think I like that.) There are, of course, some things we just can’t do, like play rap and screaming heavy metal death, charge for listening, or play commercial advertising. But we’re pretty damned good with everything else.
