His songs have been recorded and performed by literally hundreds of artists, including Chrissie Hynde, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Maria Muldaur, The Band and many more. He has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his compositions. We have over two hours of music here, and we’ve left so much out that we could have made an EP out of this effort. But we restrained ourselves. Don’t miss this one.

Before, in between, and after we’ve got our wide Open Stream of rock, rock n’ roll, country, folk, reggae, soul and da blues. We’re here 24/7 (not just when we have programming) and we’re totally free of charge and commercial advertising. What’s not to love?

Sunday Brings Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken” as Our AOW, and the ‘Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, December 11, 2022

It’s a Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge with the threat of what we call a ‘wintry mix’ in the air. That’s when the weather people hedge their bets because they can’t figure out if it’s going to be snow or rain or both. I’m hedging my bets with a nice day indoors listening to some great music!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat NEW!

This was Little Feat’s third studio album, released in 1973, and certainly became a landmark for the band. The title song would go a long way toward establishing the band’s great signature sound. Little Feat also added the great guitarist Paul Barrere and percussionist Sam Clayton. Bassist Kenny Gradney was also added to replace Roy Estrada. It signaled a change of the band’s sound, moving them toward New Orleans R & B and funk. This lineup would endure until Lowell George’s death in 1979 and the band’s subsequent breakup.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

This is the Grand Kahuna of our R & B/soul playlists which is all encompassing, and not just dedicated to Motown artists. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Al Green, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, The Supremes, Sam Cooke, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Irma Thomas, The Box Tops, Jr. Walker & The All Stars, Eddie Floyd, The Ad Libs, Arthur Conley, Joe Tex, Wanda Jackson, Percy Sledge, Ann Peebles and more!

Let’s get with the program, people. Sunday is a day of rest, and what better way to kick back than with great music. We’ve got it here and it won’t cost you a thing. I promise. We run 24/7, and always with more Open Stream than programming, at absolutely no cost to you. All you need is a computer and a free tab.

No Drought Here as We Give You Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP and Put Wendy Waldman In The Spotlight, Friday, August 26, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today we’re back on the multi-artist EP train with our ‘Water, Water Everywhere EP’ to start our programming off. Later, it’s Wendy Waldman for a return performance.

Folks, the drought is no joke. Want some water? Go to the beach. Don’t water your lawns. Please.

Here’s your Friday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Speaking scientifically, the world is composed of 71% water. But we are in a major drought right now across the nation, and even here in New England. I feel compelled to say this: Please take yourselves out of your self-serving zone and do not turn on those sprinklers. Seriously. There. I’ve said it.

Now, when you tune us in, you’ll hear Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Tom Rush, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Johnny Rivers, America, Donovan and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Wendy Waldman

Wendy Waldman’s career has been as diverse as her capabilities. She’s a singer, songwriter and record producer who started out in a band called Bryndle. Singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff was another member of Bryndle (and we will be featuring her soon, BTW) along with Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards who would later become members of Linda Ronstadt’s band. But I digress. After Bryndle, Waldman embarked on a successful solo career releasing several great albums, including The Main Refrain, a brilliant effort. Later, she moved to Nashville to focus on songwriting. Today we put Wendy Waldman In The Spotlight.

Hey, we made it to the end of the week. There’s no better time to tune us in and get a flavor for what we’re all about. We are not like other radio stations. We’re not trying to be Spotify. You can’t build custom lists here. We’re radio. Tune us in. We’re also totally free of charge — no strings, no surprises — on a 24/7 schedule. Every day.

We Start Off The Week With The Neville Brothers, The Soul Men, and Bonnie Raitt & Friends at Ultrasonic, Monday, August 8, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers across the globe! We’re kicking off the work week in fine style today, starting off with the musical flavor of New Orleans in The Neville Brothers.

The Neville Brothers will be here to start your day promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Here’s your Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of The Neville Brothers

Aaron, Art, Cyril and Ivan are The Neville Brothers, a great R & B, soul and funk band formed in New Orleans in 1977. I may never have known this band had I not spent the better part of a decade traveling to New Orleans on business. That’s when I fell in love with the city and its music.

4:00 p.m. The Soul Men, Volume 1: Various Artists

Last week we gave you The Soul Sisters and this week we give you their male counterparts. You’ll hear Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Ben E. King, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, Clarence Carter, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Al Green, Bill Withers, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Fats Domino and more!

8:00 p.m. Bonnie Raitt, Lowell George & Friends Live at Ultrasonic Studios, Hempstead, NY, October 17, 1972

Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George were joined by John Hammond and long-time bass player Freebo (Daniel Friedberg) for a concert at the famed Ultrasonic Studios that was broadcast on WLIR-FM. Although Freebo is known mostly for his work with Bonnie Raitt, he has played with Aaron Neville, Maria Muldaur, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Ringo Starr, John Mayall, Dr. John and many others. He’s a Class-A session musician if ever there was one.

Your week will always start out better with great music, and we’ve got you all set up for today. Don’t squander this opportunity or you’ll have to wait until next week to start your week out right!

It’s The Usual Saturday in The Lounge With Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, Our AOW, More of The Beatles, and LIVE DEAD! Later on July 23, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! We are finally here! (Well, some of us must endure one more retail hell day.) And you certainly are in capable hands with The Music Mermaid today!

It comprises 71% of the earth and is the subject of our musical affection today!

Here’s your musical landscape:

9:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

Water is essential for our survival. So is music. So, we’ll hear from Paul McCartney, Deep Purple Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Johnny Rivers, America, Donovan, and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hasten Down The Wind by Linda Ronstadt FINAL AIRING!

It’s the swan song for this fine album today. It was Linda Ronstadt’s seventh studio release and she stepped out from the country-rock genre just a bit to spread her wings, and many of her Laurel Canyon buddies helped her out on this one. Not to be missed.

7:00 p.m. The Beatles: The End Game

The Beatles were only actually in the limelight for about seven years, even though they started singing together in the fifties. They hit their stride here in America when they came to play The Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964, and they never looked back. By 1970, they were done as a group, having accomplished all they could together…including changing the entire face of music. They were brilliant to the bitter end.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Winterland, San Francisco, CA, February 24, 1974

This is a repeat performance, but it hasn’t been aired here since 2020. It’ll be just like new. I promise. Another great soundboard recording from a legendary band in a legendary venue, Winterland.

Saturdays are always chock full of good times here in The Mermaid Lounge. I promise. I mean, you have absolutely not one investment to make that involves money. Your money is no good here. The only investment you have to make is in time. Take a little time to join your friends from around the world, and this one person from Kansas who has been on for days. Are they dead? Or are they just in love with the station? We’ll never know.

On Saturday We Bring Our ‘A Little Bit O’ Soul’ EP, the Final Airing of “The Royal Scam” and LIVE DEAD! Later, On July 9, 2022

Good Morning, soul and R & B lovers. This is your day as we bring you some of the greatest feel-good music on the planet with our great multi-artist EP. We also give you a brand new LIVE DEAD! later on.
