The second airing of our Album of The Week, one of Carly Simon’s biggest sellers and for good reason. It’s definitely our favorite Carly Simon album here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio.

7:00 p.m. Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan: In Session, December 6, 1983

A great session recorded live at CHCH-TV Studios in Ontario, Canada, when Stevie Ray Vaughan was 29 years old, and Albert King was in his sixtieth year. Two masters at work.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Songbird by Eva Cassidy

Today is our second airing of Eva Cassidy’s Songbird album, a compilation album released posthumously. Eva Cassidy never got to appreciate stardom, dying tragically of cancer at the age of 33 in 1996, but her music lives on.

7:00 p.m. Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Live at The Country Club, Reseda, CA, October 20, 1978

Speaking of the blues, this is a great bootleg from The Country Club. Rounding out the band we have Doug Wimbish on bass, Terry Bozio on drums, and Phil Ashley on keyboards.

The only departure from the blues today, but the Album of the Week must carry on no matter what genre we focus on.

A very happy birthday to Lucinda Williams, a great blues-rock performer in her own right. We are big fans of Lucinda here in the Lounge and she is, after all, a friend of Tom.

11:00 a.m. The Blues Project Live at The Matrix Club, San Francisco, September 1966 NEW!

The Blues Project formed in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1965, and consisted of Al Kooper (keyboards and vocals), Roy Blumenfeld (drums), Danny Kalb (guitar and vocals), Steve Katz (guitar and vocals), and Andy Kulberg (bass and flute). They were short-timers, lasting only two years, but they were very good. Al Kooper and Steve Katz moved on to form Blood, Sweat & Tears after their break up.

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Joan Baez by Joan Baez

The second airing of this week’s featured album by 19-year-old Joan Baez.

7:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Austin Opera House, Texas, April 15, 1984

I was feeling the need to get Stevie Ray Vaughan back into the mix here on a Tuesday Bluesday, and we have him live from the Austin Opera House. Light the fire and put your feet up.

There is no question that this is a Robert Cray Band concert at Club Redux, but he’s joined on stage by Stevie Ray Vaughan at the end for an amazing jam and the encore performance of New Blood. Some of the best musical experiences come in small packages.

3:00 p.m. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band at The Unicorn Coffee House, Boston, Spring 1966

Spring 1966 is the closest we can get to the actual date of this performance. This is one for the wayback machine of your mind. Boston had a pretty amazing music scene, I must say. The Unicorn Coffee House (the only beverage served), Club 47, Jonathan Swifts, among the best. We veterans of such places yearn for those days again.

11:00 a.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble Live at The Bluebird Lounge, Ft. Worth, September 30, 1979

“I actually wanted to be a drummer, but I didn’t have any drums.” -SRV

Thankfully. Every day, I hear people who claim to be music lovers having ridiculous conversations about who’s a better blues guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton. The discussion is moot. We don’t need to pit one against the other. They were compatriots in life and, by the way, they had different styles and sounds. No need for that shit.

Stevie Ray Vaughan died way too young at the age of 35. Who knows what could have been, and to think about it is pointless. What we do have is an amazing body of work to listen to. This one is with his band, Double Trouble, and is live from the Bluebird Lounge.

3:00 p.m. The Best of Louisiana Blues, Volume 2

Haven’t heard this one since Fat Tuesday, and that seems like decades ago in the land of COVID-19. Wish I could tell you who’s playing on this one, but I can’t even remember where I found this file. It was on one of my late-night music hunts over last winter. I just know I’m glad I did.

7:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Monday! The Complete Mudcrutch

Mudcrutch Monday is a longstanding tradition here in The Mermaid Lounge, and it will not be denied on this day. You know, not many musicians who have been doing it for 30+ years would go back and resurrect the band that started it all, but Mr. Petty did. And we are all musicially enriched because of it.

Mudcrutch did not “make it” in the early seventies, but it did morph into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Then, after the Heartbreakers’ 30th Anniversary Tour, he brought the band back together, and it was amazing.

Mudcrutch is Tom Petty (on bass in this band), Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (from The Heartbreakers), Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh. All are from the original Mudcrutch. Have fun. I know I will!

This would be an excellent day to make #BecomeUngovernable Radio your choice in music. Do it.
