Good Morning, Bluesologists! Here we are on another Tuesday Bluesday in The Mermaid Lounge. We’ve got a great selection for you today.
On this fine Tuesday Bluesday, we feature Johnny Winter live at The Bottom Line!
Here’s today’s line-up:
11:00 a.m. Johnny Winter Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, September 5, 1978
For reasons unknown to me, sometimes this guy is overlooked by blues music lovers (but not his peers, like Muddy Waters). He is never overlooked here in The Mermaid Lounge either, and today we feature him live at The Bottom Line.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Hotcakes by Carly Simon
The second airing of our Album of The Week, one of Carly Simon’s biggest sellers and for good reason. It’s definitely our favorite Carly Simon album here at #BecomeUngovernable Radio.
7:00 p.m. Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan: In Session, December 6, 1983
A great session recorded live at CHCH-TV Studios in Ontario, Canada, when Stevie Ray Vaughan was 29 years old, and Albert King was in his sixtieth year. Two masters at work.
Tuesday Bluesday is always a good day to tune us in, of course. But then again, any day of the week is a good day to avail yourself of our services. We are not-for-profit radio. Period. End of story.
Good Morning, Bluesologists! We’ve got some great programming as we introduce a new Spotlight featuring blues guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan. We also have Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck live.
The late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan is In The Spotlight this morning.
Here’s today’s programming:
11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Stevie Ray Vaughan NEW!
Today we introduce a brand new Spotlight featuring blues guitar great Stevie Ray Vaughan, some cuts studio and some live, a couple live with Double Trouble. This has been a long time coming.
We have added the track list to the Playlist section of the blog.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Songbird by Eva Cassidy
Today is our second airing of Eva Cassidy’s Songbird album, a compilation album released posthumously. Eva Cassidy never got to appreciate stardom, dying tragically of cancer at the age of 33 in 1996, but her music lives on.
7:00 p.m. Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck Live at The Country Club, Reseda, CA, October 20, 1978
Speaking of the blues, this is a great bootleg from The Country Club. Rounding out the band we have Doug Wimbish on bass, Terry Bozio on drums, and Phil Ashley on keyboards.
Tune us in, folks. We have worldwide reach and plenty of countries are on board. Today we have France, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Greece, the UK, Japan, Australia, and even the United States.
It’s another Tuesday Bluesday in The Mermaid Lounge, and we’ve got a great line-up today on the blues front as well as Emmylou Harris and her Album of The Week.
The Allman Brothers Band marquis at The Beacon Theatre.
Here’s today’s line-up:
11:00 a.m. The Allman Brothers Band Play All Night: Live at The Beacon Theatre, New York (1992)
In 1992, the legendary Allman Brothers Band played a 10-night run at New York’s fabled Beacon Theatre. This collection is the result of that musical run.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Wrecking Ball by Emmylou Harris
The career redefining album by Emmylou Harris is a masterpiece. Give it a listen to see why. With help from friends like Lucinda Williams, Daniel Lanois, The McGarrigle Sisters and many others.
7:00 p.m. B.B. King & Friends: A Night of Blistering Blues
We close out the day’s programming with B.B. King and friends, like Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Etta James, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dr. John, Billy Ocean, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins.
I could repeat here that we are totally free and outside the system, we accept no commercial advertising, we don’t employ chatty DJ’s (in fact, there’s only one), we don’t run rap, hip-hop or disco, and we don’t need your “subscription” by credit card or your personal information. In fact, all you need is a free computer tab. Then, you click the link below.
Good Morning, Music Lovers. Some days are better than others here in The Mermaid Lounge as I ride out one of the ugliest illnesses I’ve ever had. But it is Tuesday Bluesday, and we’ve got some stuff going on.
The late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Here’s today’s line-up:
2:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan: Live at Montreaux 1982 & 1985
Selections from Stevie Ray Vaughan’s two performances at Montreaux.
6:00 p.m. Eric Clapton & Friends: Selections From the Crossroads Guitar Festivals
Hear EC with Joe Walsh, Doyle Bramhall II, ZZ Top, Carlos Santana, The Robert Cray Band, Gary Clark Jr., B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.
Tune us in, people. We run 24/7 whether I’m sick or well. No commercials. No endless chatter.
Good Morning, Blues Lovers! We’ve got a great blues line-up for you here today. There’s no question about it. If you’re into the blues, this would be a good day to tune us in.
The indescribably good Roomful of Blues.
Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday line-up:
11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Mystery Girl by Roy Orbison
This is the only non-blues entry of the day, but it is our Album of The Week and it’s a damned good album. We give you the deluxe edition here.
3:00 p.m. The Robert Cray Band with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Live at Club Redux, Dallas, Texas, January 21, 1987
Two great blues guys together in one venue. Doesn’t get much better than that.
7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Roomful of Blues
Roomful of Blues is described as a blues and swing revival big band. They are based out of Rhode Island out here on the East Coast, and have been recording for fifty years. You definitely have to tune them in if you haven’t heard them before.
If you like the blues, this is a good day to tune us in. We’re free. No personal information required. No credit card required. No advertising accepted.
Good Morning, Bluesologists! We have Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge, and some great programming to go along with it!
We have Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lucinda Williams on the docket for today.
Here’s today’s programming plan:
11:00 a.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Bluebird Blues Club, Ft. Worth, Texas, November 30, 1979
Master performer and blues guitarist supreme Stevie Ray Vaughan gives us some life stuff from the Bluebird Blues Club (also called The Bluebird Lounge in some circles) in Ft. Worth.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Face The Music by Electric Light Orchestra
The only departure from the blues today, but the Album of the Week must carry on no matter what genre we focus on.
7:00 p.m. Lucinda Williams Live at Austin City Limits, Austin, Texas, December 5, 1998
A very happy birthday to Lucinda Williams, a great blues-rock performer in her own right. We are big fans of Lucinda here in the Lounge and she is, after all, a friend of Tom.
Tune us in. It won’t cost you a thing. The DJ might as well be a mute. We don’t want your personal information; we have our own. And we don’t need a credit card because we’re fucking free. And we’re free 24/7, by the way. We never stop.
Good Morning, Bluesicologists! It is indeed Tuesday Bluesday here in The Mermaid Lounge and we’ve got some new additions to our rotation and our playlists today!
The Blues Project makes its debut on #BecomeUngovernable Radio.
Here’s today’s line-up:
11:00 a.m. The Blues Project Live at The Matrix Club, San Francisco, September 1966 NEW!
The Blues Project formed in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1965, and consisted of Al Kooper (keyboards and vocals), Roy Blumenfeld (drums), Danny Kalb (guitar and vocals), Steve Katz (guitar and vocals), and Andy Kulberg (bass and flute). They were short-timers, lasting only two years, but they were very good. Al Kooper and Steve Katz moved on to form Blood, Sweat & Tears after their break up.
3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Joan Baez by Joan Baez
The second airing of this week’s featured album by 19-year-old Joan Baez.
7:00 p.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The Austin Opera House, Texas, April 15, 1984
I was feeling the need to get Stevie Ray Vaughan back into the mix here on a Tuesday Bluesday, and we have him live from the Austin Opera House. Light the fire and put your feet up.
We are back in retail hell today, but we certainly hope we’ve left you in good hands. Remember, we’re free. We don’t ask you for a thing. Tune us in and see for yourself.
OooohWheee, that is a mouthful, even from me. But that’s what we’ve got today from The Mermaid Lounge.
Robert Cray
This is your line-up for Friday:
11:00 a.m. The Robert Cray Band with Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at Club Redux, Dallas, Texas, January 21, 1987 NEW!
There is no question that this is a Robert Cray Band concert at Club Redux, but he’s joined on stage by Stevie Ray Vaughan at the end for an amazing jam and the encore performance of New Blood. Some of the best musical experiences come in small packages.
3:00 p.m. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band at The Unicorn Coffee House, Boston, Spring 1966
Spring 1966 is the closest we can get to the actual date of this performance. This is one for the wayback machine of your mind. Boston had a pretty amazing music scene, I must say. The Unicorn Coffee House (the only beverage served), Club 47, Jonathan Swifts, among the best. We veterans of such places yearn for those days again.
We may not have the exact date, but we did manage to find the set list! This is posted under the Playlist tab of this blog. Scroll to the bottom!
7:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band with Eric Clapton, Live at The Beacon Theater, NY, March 19, 2009
On a March evening in 2009, Eric Clapton joined the brothers on stage at New York’s Beacon Theater for six great songs and the rest is history as you will see.
You can’t see unless you give it a try. And it doesn’t cost you anything but a little click of the link below. No card. No personal information. Nada.
While you’ve been enjoying all the great blues music over the past day or so, we’ve been busy adding several hundred classic blues artists and their songs to our standard rotation. That means, going forward, you’ll hear them along with the rest of our stream as a matter of routine.
We’ve added several hundred new blues selections in the last 48 hours.
Here are the artists we’ve recently added:
Roomful of Blues
Bobby “Blue” Bland
Muddy Waters
Little Walter
The Robert Cray Band
Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac
Stevie Ray Vaughan (solo and with Double Trouble)
Marcia Ball
Howlin’ Wolf
We expect to be adding more artists again over the next day!
Good Morning, Blues Lovers! As we continue to upload more and more blues here in The Mermaid Lounge today, we continue to play it out the other end!
“I’ve said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed.” -B.B. King
Here’s your Monday line-up:
11:00 a.m. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble Live at The Bluebird Lounge, Ft. Worth, September 30, 1979
“I actually wanted to be a drummer, but I didn’t have any drums.” -SRV
Thankfully. Every day, I hear people who claim to be music lovers having ridiculous conversations about who’s a better blues guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton. The discussion is moot. We don’t need to pit one against the other. They were compatriots in life and, by the way, they had different styles and sounds. No need for that shit.
Stevie Ray Vaughan died way too young at the age of 35. Who knows what could have been, and to think about it is pointless. What we do have is an amazing body of work to listen to. This one is with his band, Double Trouble, and is live from the Bluebird Lounge.
3:00 p.m. The Best of Louisiana Blues, Volume 2
Haven’t heard this one since Fat Tuesday, and that seems like decades ago in the land of COVID-19. Wish I could tell you who’s playing on this one, but I can’t even remember where I found this file. It was on one of my late-night music hunts over last winter. I just know I’m glad I did.
7:00 p.m. Mudcrutch Monday! The Complete Mudcrutch
Mudcrutch Monday is a longstanding tradition here in The Mermaid Lounge, and it will not be denied on this day. You know, not many musicians who have been doing it for 30+ years would go back and resurrect the band that started it all, but Mr. Petty did. And we are all musicially enriched because of it.
Mudcrutch did not “make it” in the early seventies, but it did morph into Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Then, after the Heartbreakers’ 30th Anniversary Tour, he brought the band back together, and it was amazing.
Mudcrutch is Tom Petty (on bass in this band), Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (from The Heartbreakers), Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh. All are from the original Mudcrutch. Have fun. I know I will!
This would be an excellent day to make #BecomeUngovernable Radio your choice in music. Do it.
