11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Goodbye and Hello by Tim Buckley NEW!

A lot of people don’t really know Tim Buckley. It took me a while to discover him as well. He was one of those singer-songwriters we call a changeling. He began his career in folk music but spread his wings into jazz, psychedelic, funk, soul, avant-garde and more, before dying at the age of 28 in 1975 from a heroin and morphine overdose. Goodbye and Hello was Buckley’s second studio album released in August of 1967 and is a combination of folk-rock and psychedelic-folk.

The question you have to ask yourself is what kind of folk music best suits you? Because it’s a deep-rooted musical style that has changed and evolved over the years without losing its basic identity. I remember when Dylan took it electric. It created quite a stir. We were foul of mood. That was, until Zevon got on stage and blew us all away. He was an extraordinary songwriter who broke onto the scene when someone named Linda Ronstadt started singing his songs. And Zevon had a great voice to boot. He may have been a self destructive character, but nobody can ever deny the man’s talents.

I suppose if I didn’t work in retail, I may feel differently about them. But I digress. Did I mention that we’re totally free of charge? That’s one thing you won’t have to worry about. Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today most of us learned of the passing of Christine McVie, whom we considered the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. She was an extraordinary talent whose roots were in the blues and today we pay her homage.

Although not the most flamboyant member of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie was, without a doubt, the heart and soul of that band. Her original roots were in singing the blues, starting with a British blues band called Chicken Shack. She also had a solo career prior to her marriage to John McVie when she was known as Christine Perfect. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, she wrote many of their biggest hits, like Say You Love Me, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun and Don’t Stop. Christine McVie passed away on November 30 at the age of 79, leaving a hole in the music world. We pay tribute to her this evening.

Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge Brings Creedence Clearwater Revival With Our New AOW and Volume Two of The ‘Sixties Rotation’ EPs, November 27, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! The sun is already out here and we’ve got an easy day going today with some great music from the first generation of classic rockers with Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ for five uninterrupted hours this afternoon.

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival NEW!

CCR, as they are popularly known, was a force in 1969, releasing three albums. Green River was one of those releases, and it gave us some great songs including the hits Bad Moon Rising and Green River, which both peaked at No. 2 on the charts. The songs Lodi and Commotion were also fan favorites, although they didn’t reach the chart status of the first two. John Fogerty was the creative force behind CCR, and he disliked the long, acid-infused jams popular at the time. CCR bucked the norm and preferred the tightly structured roots music that would actually make them famous. We love this band here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we believe they’ve never made a bad song.
