We kick it off with a great lineup with no pretenders on the playlist. You’ll hear Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Asleep At The Wheel, Hank Williams, The Byrds, Patsy Cline, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Poco, Linda Ronstadt (who belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame, BTW), Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash, Townes Van Zandt, The Highwaymen, and more!

4:00 p.m. Neil Young & The International Harvesters Live at The Moody Theater, Austin, TX, September 25, 1984

This afternoon it’s Neil Young & The International Harvesters recorded live at The Moody Theater for Austin City Limits.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

We close out the midweek programming with one of the finest bands ever to grace the country-rock genre formed in Long Beach, CA, all the way back in 1966 that gave us over half a century of great music.

We’re here. We’re free. And we don’t run any commercial advertising. We haven’t got the money to hire DJ’s, and we wouldn’t if we did. We’re all about the music. The big-ass button is below.

On Friday, It’s the ‘Sounds of the Supergroups,’ Rosanne Cash & Carlene Carter, & The Beatles, July 25, 2025

Good morning, music lovers! We’ve got a great non-EP lineup today, and that means plenty of big, wide Open Stream. The programming we offer today is, however, spectacular.

Here’s your Friday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Sounds of The Supergroups: Various Artists

The Traveling Wilburys are at the top of the heap, but there’s also Blind Faith, Cream, The Highwaymen, Trio, CSNY, The Super Blues Band, and Manassas. We’ll hear them all today!

4:00 p.m. The Unbroken Circle: The Music of Rosanne Cash & Carlene Carter

This is an excellent playlist of music from the daughters of Johnny Cash and June Carter, one a country legend and the other just a little bit rock and roll.

8:00 p.m. The Beatles: The Love Songs

We close it out with The Fab Four and a collection of their loves songs which are, without a doubt, some of the most beautiful ever created. From In My Life, to Yesterday, to Something, The Beatles were the masters.

We’re here 24/7 without interruption. We’re not here to sell you anything. We’re here to play the best music on the planet without any strings attached. See for yourselves. The button is below.

It’s All About Country With Our EP, Then the Marshall Tucker Band, and Live Townes Van Zandt on Saturday, July 5, 2025

When we say ‘country’ here in The Mermaid Lounge we mean real country (Cash, Nelson, Walker, Williams, Parton, Cline et al.) and the legends of country-rock. So, that’s where we are today.

Here’s your Saturday musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

You’ll hear The Eagles, Asleep At the Wheel, Hank Williams, The Byrds, Patsy Cline, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Poco, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Jerry Jeff Walker, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Carlene Carter, Rosanne Cash, The Desert Rose Band, Kris Kristofferson, Gram Parsons, Tom Rush, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, The Highwaymen and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Marshall Tucker Band

I liked these guys from the very first time I ever heard them, and I saw them live a few times over the years. We’ll hear from them this afternoon.

8:00 p.m. Townes Van Zandt Live at The Jester Lounge, Houston, TX, Sometime in 1966

Another of those events where we can’t find a definite date, but it is believe that this is one of the first times Townes Van Zandt was recorded live at a commercial establishment. The man was a mess of a human being (not in a bad way, but in an unfortunate way), but that didn’t stop him from being a songwriting genius who inspired those who came after him (just ask Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, and Nanci Griffith).

And that’s where we are today on July 5. We hope you’ll give us a listen. There’s no need to sign up for anything or provide any information. Just use the button below.

On Friday It’s ‘Money, Honey’, a Tracy Nelson ‘Spotlight’ Feature, and The Highwaymen Live, April 11, 2025

Good morning, Weekenders! Saturday has rolled around and we are all about country today. No, this is not Beyonce’s kind of country. Ours comes from the real Nashville country artists, the outlaws who broke the mold, and those who the forged country-rock genre.

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Are You Ready For The Country: Various Artists

The Eagles, Asleep at The Wheel, Hank Williams, The Byrds, Patsy Cline, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Poco, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Carlene Carter, Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Gram Parsons, John Prine, Tom Rush, Townes Van Zandt, The Highwaymen and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Kris Kristofferson

We lost a great one here. Kristofferson was one of the outlaws, a brilliant singer-songwriter who broke out of the constraints of the traditional Nashville sound, but kept it real country.

8:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at The Palomino, W. Hollywood, CA, June 8 1969

We get into the Wayback Machine for this one as we explore some of the great country-rock sounds that were born in Laurel Canyon.

Here are the details, Weekenders:

We only play real country here when we play country; none of that Jason Aldean crap. You’ll hear The Eagles, Asleep at The Wheel, Hank Williams, The Byrds, Patsy Cline, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Poco, Linda Ronstadt, Alison Krauss, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Carlene Carter, Rosanne Cash, The Desert Rose Band, Kris Kristofferson, Gram Parsons, Tom Rush, The Highwaymen and more!

Another of our favorite bands here, with a changing lineup with the exception of stalwart Roger McGuinn, the band’s leader. Joining him for this performance were Gene Parsons (drums), Clarence White (guitar) and John York (bass). Enjoy!

Well, Weekenders, it begins today. I have one more day in hardware hell, but The Music Mermaid is always on duty and will take care of you until evening. The button is below.

It’s Midweek and We’re ‘Under The Influence’ With The Beatles and The Supergroups, Wednesday, January 8, 2025

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. Under The Influence: Various Artists

4:00 p.m. Trippin’ With The Beatles

This afternoon we explore The Beatles psychedelic catalogue, an extraordinary journey. Did you know that Paperback Writer is considered one of the earliest examples of a psychedelic song?

8:00 p.m. Sounds of The Supergroups, Volume One: Various Artists

Tonight we close it out with the Supergroups, like Cream, Blind Faith, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Highwaymen, The Super, Super Blues Band (Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf & Bo Diddley), Manassas, and two of the best damned supergroups of all time, Trio (Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris) and our faves, The Traveling Wilburys. You know, nobody ever speaks of Trio as a supergroup, at least not the music media which still entrenched in misogyny, but that is exactly what Trio was.

Like I said earlier, we’re headed for the weekend after today, and we aim to get you there in style. We’re on 24/7 with no commercial interruption. Ever. The button is below.

This great show was finally unearthed by Rhino Records and released in 2021.
