Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash Record Together, “Timeless” Debuts as Our Album of The Week, and ‘What’s In A Name’ Playlist Later, Sunday, February 28, 2021

We are off to a late start today, Music Lovers, but the music is still great in spite of all that. We have a brand new album of the week, epic Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, and a great playlist later this evening.

Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash got together to record during breaks in the sessions for Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline” album.

While Bob Dylan was in Nashville recording his Nashville Skyline album, he and Johnny Cash decided to get together to record some music. Only one of those songs made it to Nashville Skyline. It was Girl From The North Country. The others were released much later. We have those recordings here for you today.

5:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Timeless, An All-Star Tribute to Hank Williams NEW!

This is one sweet album of all-stars paying their respects to a counry legend, Hank Williams, Sr. There are a number of memorable performances here, especially from Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris. However, the one that stands out for me is Tom Petty’s version of You’re Gonna’ Change (Or I’m A Gonna’ Leave). Listen for it. Other contributors include Mark Knopfler, Shery Crow, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams III, and Johnny Cash.

8:00 p.m. Deb’s Stream: What’s In A Name? Various Artists

We haven’t heard this one for a while, and it’s a good one. Songs with people’s names in them, either in the title or the lyrics. It’s the music selection, the genres she was able to master, and the way she defied the “experts” in her field who predicted her demise for changing music styles. She’s the package, people.

We follow that up with a very good friend of Linda’s, and her career redefining album, Wrecking Ball. This is our final airing before a new album is introduced tomorrow.

Another new performance by The Dead, this one from the Deer Creek Music Center, which has been renamed about five times since then. But no matter, when it comes to The Grateful Dead, no two shows sound the same, even when they’re part of the same tour.

We’ve Added New Music To Our Standard Rotation!

We’ve added some new music to our Standard Rotation over the past couple of weeks. This is the first opportunity we’ve had to update you on these additions.

We’ve added some new people and bands to the rotation, like The Jerry Garcia Band, The Boogaloo Swamis (Cajun/Zydeco), and the combination of Jimi Hendrix & Little Richard.

We’ve also added to the volume of several artists: Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Emmylou Harris, The Youngbloods, Tracy Chapman and BeauSoleil.

We’ve also cleaned out some duplicates and some old political stuff (we still have more of this junk to go; but it is a painstaking process), giving us a total of 26,834 songs in the rotation.

We will be adding some of our Album of The Week selections to the on-demand section over the next few weeks.

In spite of the fact that we offer several hours of planned programming during each day, the vast majority of our 24-hour cycle is devoted to Open Stream. We hope you’ll tune us in.

Emmylou Harris owns our Album of The Week. By anyone’s standards, “Wrecking Ball” was brilliant.

Wrecking Ball was Emmylou Harris’ eighteenth release, and it was also a career-redefining effort, her music taking on a sharper edge as she combined with Daniel Lanois (known for his work with U2). She covered songs by Neil Young (the title song), Daniel Lanois, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, and Lucinda Williams (not a complete list). Many helped out with the instruments and vocals. It won the 1996 Grammy Award as The Best Contemporary Folk Recording.This is a spectacular album. Not to be missed, people.

Our monthly tribute to those who inspired this radio station is once again afoot. Another of those historical music “scenes” is Laurel Canyon. Here, bands like CSNY, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Beach Boys, The Byrds and The Buffalo Springfield developed their sounds. The British Invasion resonated with these bands, and these bands also had a creative effect on their friends across the pond. You’ll hear these bands plus Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, The Doors, and The Mamas & The Papas.

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Take A Little Walk With Me by Tom Rush FINAL AIRING!

Today we’ll have the final airing of Tom Rush’s Take A Little Walk With Me, released in 1966. Tomorrow when you wake up, there’ll be a new Album of The Week.
