We start out with a brand new Beatles playlist that we love here in The Lounge. Like every other band, The Fab Four started as a cover band. As Tom Petty says, that’s how every band learns to write and sets their own style. It was no different for The Beatles, who cover Arthur Alexander, The Shirelles, Carl Perkins, The Isley Brothers, Smokey Robinson and more in this edition!

One of the finest bands out of Britain is up ‘In The Spotlight’ this afternoon as we focus on music from across the pond today.

Chrissie Hynde battled plenty of sexism before launching the Pretenders in 1978. At the time, the band didn’t have a name but recorded five tracks which eventually got them their start. She eventually named the band after the Platters song, The Great Pretender, which was a favorite song of her ex-boyfriend. The rest, as they say, is musical history. I am not what you’d call a ‘fan’ of the punk music genre, but The Pretenders under the leadership of Chrissie Hynde is one of the best bands on the planet, regardless of genre.

8:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Dr. John

We close out the evening with Dr. John, another music master who managed to combine New Orleans-fueled blues, jazz, R & B, soul and funk into a style all his own.

This is a great ‘in session’ performance by two masters during the recording of Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album, one of my personal Dylan favorites. Although The Girl From The North Country was the only cut to make the album, it was a great collaboration.
