The second airing of Bonnie’s great new album, her first new album in six years. She’s all over our airwaves today!

Happy Birthday, Lefty Wilbury, Plus Jefferson Airplane Live at The Matrix & The Beatles Live on The Rooftop, Monday, April 25, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got three classic rock acts lined up for you today as we head into a brand new work week!

We’ve got the complete Beatles Apple Rooftop Concert later!

Here’s your Monday, Monday line-up:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Roy Orbison

Today we say Happy Birthday (April 23, actually), Lefty Wilbury, also known as The Big O and the Caruso of Rock. You can also call him Roy Orbison, friend of Tom, Bob, and George. Today we give you the full spectrum of Roy Orbison’s talents.

3:00 p.m. Jefferson Airplane Live at The Matrix Club, San Francisco, CA, February 1, 1968

We are truly paying homage to the bands we love so much here in The Mermaid Lounge today as we take you all the way back to 1968 for this great performance at The Matrix Club in San Francisco.

7:00 p.m. The Beatles Complete Apple Rooftop Concert, London, UK, January 30, 1969

It was short and, oh, so sweet. I would love to have been there for the final live performance ever by the Fab Four. The city was at a standstill, people were getting out of their cars to listen, and the Bobbies were clearly trying to figure out where the music was coming from. It was a great way to go out, as they say.

It’s Monday, so why not improve your prospects by tuning us in today! We’re giving you some great classic rock mixed in with all that great wide Open Stream. And it’s all for free, people. What could be better besides a long weekend?

Sunday In the Lounge Brings Bonnie Raitt’s First New Album in Six Years, and Our ‘British Are Coming’ EP, April 24, 2022

Good Morning, Classic Rockers! Today’s programming is what it usually is on Sunday, our new Album of The Week and an EP, this time from across the pond, and the rest wide Open Stream!

We start the day with Bonnie Raitt’s first new (fantastic) album in six years!

Here’s your Sunday programming:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Just Like That… by Bonnie Raitt NEW!

Bonnie Raitt’s first new album in six years was released just two days ago, and we have it here for you today! There’s really no need for me to go into great detail here about what a great talent she is. You’ve heard me go on about her before. Instead, I just leave you with the New York Times review of the album. It’s the fourth review I’ve read over the past few days. Not one of them is in the negative category.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

We’re back again this month with The British Invasion and beyond, from The Beatles to Queen. It’s music from across the pond. They inspired us and we inspired them. That’s the way music works, people. You will hear The Beatles, The Who, The Zombies, The Hollies, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Queen, The Dave Clark Five, The Bee Gees, the Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Badfinger, The Yardbirds, Traffic, Elton John, Lulu, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, the Spencer Davis Group and more!

Tune us in, gang. It’s Sunday, a total day of rest here. Unless, of course, you’re me. Then you get to keep going here in The Mermaid Lounge. But it’s all fun stuff today. No retail hell in sight for the next 48 hours.

Welcome to Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge With Our House Playlist EP, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and LIVE DEAD! Later, April 23, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists and Audiophiles! It’s another Saturday. Thankfully. And we’ve got a great playlist here with a lot of shit to say about the state of the nation sprinkled in…from the last time we were this pissed off. Call it a musical history lesson.

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

Today we start the fun with our House EP, just over five hours of music with Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, Genesis, T. Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone, and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Common Sense by John Prine

We bid a fond farewell to this great Priney album today. There’s a reason why this guy is one of the most respected songwriters on the planet. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a brand new selection for you! And we’re sure you’ll love it.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA, May 11, 1991 NEW!

The Dead at Shoreline again. We’ve aired a couple of others from this venue. This particular show was a benefit for the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund, and was at a time when a guy named Bruce Hornsby was on keys for the band. Enjoy.

Tune us in, people. I don’t know what else we can say to convince you. We have listeners from around the world and our U.S. listeners are definitely picking up. We have no money for advertising because we do not have any income from advertising. You’ll never hear that on this station. Get with the program, people.

It’s the End of Another Work Week and We’ve Got Volume Two of Our ‘Sixties Rotation’ and the First NOT The Album of The Week of the Year, Friday, April 22, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We have come to another Friday, and that means the end of the work week for most. But not all. Like me. Nevertheless, we’ve got the music that inspired the station today!

Today, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of ‘Let Me Up I’ve Had Enough’ by The Heartbreakers.

Here’s your Friday line-up:

11:00 a.m. The Sixties Rotation, Volume Two: Various Artists

This volume focuses more on the mid-to-late sixties, and you’ll hear many Laurel Canyon veterans here: The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roy Orbison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Elvis Presley, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, The Band, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, The Kinks, Jimmy Cliff, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Zombies, Donovan, The Velvet Underground, B. B. King, Led Zeppelin and more!

7:00 p.m. NOT The Album of The Week: Let Me Up I’ve Had Enough by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

We did several of these last year, but this is the first one we’ve done this year. The album itself was released on April 27, 1987. The single Jammin’ Me, written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, was released on April 18, 1987. It would go to no. 1 on The Billboard charts, and piss Eddie Murphy off. Neither Petty nor Dylan would back down. You simply don’t mess with Dylan’s lyrics.

Great day to tune us in, as usual. We’ve not only got the music that inspired this modest, little music station, but we celebrate a great collection of songs from our House Band! What more could you want?

Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons, and their Flying Burrito Brothers

Here’s your Monday, Monday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Repeat After Me, Volume 1: Various Artists

They say imitation if the sincerest form of flattery, and that is certainly true in the music world. We prove it today with a really fun playlist. We give you the original song, then the reboot as Linda Ronstadt sings Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (not to mention Little Feat and Randy Newman), Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers sing The Animals, Tracy Nelson sings Bob Dylan, Gregg Allman sings Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris covers Simon & Garfunkel, Three Dog Night covers Laura Nyro, Aretha Franklin covers Carole King, The Beatles sing Barrett Strong, and I think you get the message here. Tune this one in. We’ll have volume two on Wedesday!

3:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at My Father’s Place, Roslyn, New York, November 28,1976

We’ve got a band here that helped pioneer the marriage between country and rock playing at a legendary venue. My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel opened in 1971 and “created a scene that would influence music for decades to come,” according to the New York Times. They were spot on.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Guy Clark

I remember seeing this guy one very cold, snowy night as my friends and I were freezing our asses off running round Harvard Square in Cambridge getting stoned. We were freezing and one of the greatest music venues, Passim’s Coffee House, was open and serving stuff that was warm. We went in. The cover wasn’t expensive, so we took a table. And when Guy Clark came out, someone we’d never heard before, we had our minds completely blown. He’s been a favorite ever since, and is certainly one of the greatest singer-songwriters I’ve ever experienced.

Tune us in, folks. We’re here 24/7 at absofuckinglutely no charge to you. Ever. We’re also commercial-free and run more open stream than programming. We make it count.
