7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Docks, Hamburg, Germany, April 23, 1999

Recorded for Rockpalast, this is a fine live performance by the gang. The Heartbreakers were always a great ‘road’ band. Next time we fulfill the duties of Tom Petty Month, you’ll see that they are the planet’s best cover band as well.

Let’s get on it. It’s Tom Petty Month! Granted we have toned it down from the first two years, but we’ve got some great stuff planned and it’s still early in the month! We’re on 24/7 and we’re totally free of charge to all. No advertising either. See for yourself.

We Kick Off Tom Petty Month With a Single Agenda Item: Our ‘Tom Petty’s Top 100’ EP, Monday, October 2, 2023

Good morning, Petty lovers! Six years ago today, Tom Petty passed away into rock n’ roll heaven to hang out with Roy Orbison and George Harrison again. Or at least that’s what I’d envision were that a reality. It freaked me out like John Lennon’s death freaked me out.

We kick off Tom Petty Month With One Agenda Item:

10:00 a.m. Tom Petty’s Top 100 Best Songs

Tom Petty passed away six years ago today, on October 2, 2017, one week after the final live show of the Heartbreakers’ 40th Anniversary Tour at the Hollywood Bowl. Dr. Tom Petty left behind a volume of work, some perhaps still unexplored, to keep his musical vision alive.

Today we have Tom Petty’s Top 100 songs from his time as a Heartbreaker, a member of The Traveling Wilburys and founder of Mudcrutch. Then, there’s his solo career. Let’s not forget that (even though his fellow Heartbreakers were always present).

Come on in! It’s Tom Petty Month and the music’s just fine. When we started this, we saturated the airwaves for a couple of years. We’ve toned it down a bit. You’ll hear a couple of Petty things per week for a month. We’re ready to rock and roll and remember the leader of one of our House Bands.

Today It’s Laura Nyro With Our AOW and Some Folks Who Want to Sing to You About Travelin’ Fever, Sunday, October 1, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! We’re here on another keep-it-simple Sunday with Laura Nyro’s New York Tendaberry and our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP!

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

In her third studio album, Nyro sings about the romantic experience and past lovers in a darker tone than on Eli & The Thirteenth Confession (which has already been on our AOW roster), but New York Tendaberry would prove to be the most commercially successful album of her career. As we have said in previous write-ups about Laura Nyro, she spent most of her career making others successful with her great compositions, but there is nothing like hearing Laura singer her own stuff.

3:00 p.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Life on the road has to be one of the most popular subjects in rock n’ roll (perhaps second only to the broken heart). You’ll hear from Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Joan Baez, Asleep at The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield, Tom Rush, Willie Nelson, The Guess Who, Ray Charles, Marshall Tucker Band, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Del Shannon, and more!

We Start Out ‘In Your Dreams’ Today, Move On to Rosanne Cash, Then Bob Marley is Our Singer-Songwriter, Saturday, September 30, 2023

We close out the month in style today with our ‘In Your Dreams’ EP, then we bid a fond farwell to a great album and introduce Bob Marley as our featured singer-songwriter.

Here’s your musical lineup for today:

9:00 a.m. In Your Dreams: Various Artists

You’ll hear the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Aerosmith, Crowded House, the Moody Blues, Van Morrison, The Eurythmics, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Nanci Griffith, the Electric Prunes, Fleetwood Mac, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Mamas & The Papas, Jimmy Buffett, the Alan Parsons Project, the Allman Brothers Band, Supertramp, Randy Newman, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Widespread Panic, The Youngbloods, Jimmy Ruffin, Jackson Browne, Mudcrutch, Patsy Cline, Joe Walsh, Bruce Springsteen, k.d. lang, Dusty Springfield and more!

Today we say goodbye to a great album from Rosanne Cash, who will make a return run as one of our featured singer-songwriters soon-ish. Tomorrow we’ll introduce another album.

A true pioneer in bringing Reggae to the world, Bob Marley combined the best elements of Reggae, Ska and Rocksteady with his visionary singing and songwriting style to put Reggae music front and center on the world stage. Today he becomes our featured singer-songwriter.
