10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA, April 2, 1973 NEW!

I’ve seen many a concert in this legendary venue, which has now sadly been transformed into a mega-arena. It was supposedly done to improve the sound quality, but I think that’s utter bullshit. I digress. This show was just over three hours of sheer bliss. If you’re a Deadhead, come join the fun tonight.

Friday Brings Music From Laurel Canyon and Puts Paul Simon In The Spotlight Later, August 27, 2021

Laurel Canyon and the cross pollination it inspired among musical friends was magical, but it didn’t end with the 60’s. There was a second wave of people who moved in and took part in that magic, including Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, J.D. Souther, Carole King, James Taylor and others. They join The Doors, Canned Heat, The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, The Mamas & The Papas and others from the first wave.

We’ve updated this playlist to over four hours of great music, officially making it our newest extended player. Oh yeah, we’ve also changed the name.

We haven’t heard from this guy for a while, so it’s about time. This playlist features his music from his partnership with Art Garfunkel to his solo work.

It’s another crazy hot and ugly weather day here in the Boston area. It has been this way most of the summer. We’re hoping it comes to an end outside, but we hope to keep it hot in The Mermaid Lounge (music-wise, that is) as we move into fall with some new stuff. We have two house bands. The Beatles is one of those house bands. (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is the other.) This list is in no numerical order. It was done very scientifically, of course. Some Beatle fans (including me) sat around getting stoned and just threw out titles. If we agreed, we kept the song on the list. We scrubbed the ones we didn’t agree on. That’s about as scientific as we can get at this stage of the game. Some day when I am indeed fully retired, we’ll open this up to listeners by email and take votes. But for now, this is what you get. We like this list a lot.
