This is the original Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green at the helm, back when they were a blues band. This one is live from The Warehouse in New Orleans.

Nearly all of our blues music today comes to us from New Orleans, and that’s a good thing. New Orleans is a spectacular musical hotbed all the way around with a variety of musical styles, the blues being just one of them. We’ve got more coming from New Orleans later on this year. On January 10, we lost guitar god Jeff Beck at the age of 78, but he was more than just a guitar god. Beck influenced others for generations. He was an eight-time Grammy winner who spent time in The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame twice, once in 1992 with The Yardbirds and again in 2009 as a solo artist. As we assemble a Spotlight feature on him, we start with this great live reunion performance from 2006 at B. B. King’s Blues Club.

Before, in between and after we give you our wide Open Stream under the supervision of The Music Mermaid. She has impeccable taste in music, as you well know. We’ve got the second airing of this week’s Album of The Week at mid-afternoon. This one was recorded over five months in several different cities due to the band’s intense road schedule.

The Fillmore East concerts deliver some of the finest live Allman Brothers work ever, with a lineup that boasted both Dickie Betts and Duane Allman on lead guitar. Duane also played slide.

7:00 p.m. Muddy Waters: The Johnny Winter Sessions

By the mid-seventies, the Chess label had folded and Muddy Waters was in need of a new label. He was also in need of a career revival. Enter Johnny Winter, one of the finest blues guitarists on the planet. Between 1976 and 1981, Winters produced three Grammy-winning albums for Muddy Waters, and also supported him on the road in 1979. This compilation gives you the some great blues by two blues masters.

They also have had a successful career all their own, and you’ll hear them sing their own songs tonight.

We’re raring to go headlong into another year. It will be our sixth, but we’ve got another whole week left in 2022 and plenty of music to share. We’ve got some special stuff lined up for next week as we celebrate Music Festival Week. Stay tuned!

Not a blues album per se, but this is the album where Little Feat established its sound, moving into the realm of New Orleans rhythm & blues and funk. Sam Clayton (percussion) and the late, great Paul Barrere (guitar) became permanent members of the band on this album. This would be the final lineup before the death of Lowell George and the band’s dissolution.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Tedeschi Trucks Band NEW!

Right now, this is our premier blues-rock band with arguably the best blues guitarist in the business in Derek Trucks. His wife, Susan Tedeschi, is no slouch on that thing either. And she can sing the blues. This one has been a long time coming. We’ve also gotten hold of some great live performances that we’ll soon be featuring.
