Back in the day, Fleetwood Mac was a blues band and Peter Green was its heart and soul. Then he ventured out on his own. This is a post-Mac band on the road in Mannheim, Germany.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and our ‘Repeat After Me Series’ proves that theory out as we hear great original songs and their reboots. You’ll hear The Heartbreakers sing Lucinda Williams, Linda Ronstadt sing Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Johnny Winter sing Bob Dylan, The Eagles sing Jackson Browne, The Beatles singing The Isley Brothers, among others. This one is a lot of fun.

Dr. Tom Petty had a vision for the band’s future that had them sitting around in chairs playing the blues in the elder years, just like the photo on this blog. Unfortunately for us all, Tom never got there, but The Heartbreakers had a great appreciation for the blues and its musicians and they played plenty of blues while he was on the planet. We’ve got it for you tonight as we continue to celebrate Tom Petty Month.

I played Teaser & The Firecat until the grooves were gone. He’s a fine songwriter, musician and singer who suffered unjustly because he had converted to Islam prior to the 9-11 fiasco. At one point, they wouldn’t even allow him into the U.S. for his tour. The man is an American, people. Get over it.

In her third studio album, Nyro sings about the romantic experience and past lovers in a darker tone than on Eli & The Thirteenth Confession (which has already been on our AOW roster), but New York Tendaberry would prove to be the most commercially successful album of her career. As we have said in previous write-ups about Laura Nyro, she spent most of her career making others successful with her great compositions, but there is nothing like hearing Laura singer her own stuff.

Life on the road has to be one of the most popular subjects in rock n’ roll (perhaps second only to the broken heart).
