It’s Sunday in The Lounge With Hot Tuna’s Album of The Week and Our Station-Launching #BecomeUngovernable House EP, March 26, 2023

Good morning, weekenders! We keep it simple here on Sundays, but that doesn’t mean the music isn’t great. We’ve got a great AOW and our station-launching very first EP mixed in with all that wide Open Stream.

8:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Steady As She Goes by Hot Tuna NEW!

Released in 2011, this great blues-rock album was Hot Tuna’s first studio album after a string of live albums, and came after Jorma Kaukonen released his own solo album on Red House Records. When the label showed an interest in a new Hot Tuna album, Kaukonen sprang into action. It was recorded at Levon Helm’s studio (The Band), and he used the same approach that the Jefferson Airplane used in producing their albums. Kaukonen contributed six songs to this album. Many people consider Stevie Nicks the driving force behind Fleetwood Mac, but we consider that force to be Christine McVie the writer and singer, of many of their biggest hits (Say You Love Me, Little Lies, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun). Rolling Stone magazine calls her ‘the beating heart of Fleetwood Mac.’ She was was part of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac (before Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham; when they were a blues band) and a woman who was a fixture in the mid-60’s British blues scene. She is this week’s featured singer-songwriter.

8:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Tom Rush NEW!

Tom Rush is credited with ushering in the singer-songwriter era. Not only is he a songwriter himself, but he helped put several others on the map by singing their songs, most notably Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Tom Rush has been at it for over sixty years. Today he is 82 and still active. I have fond memories of spending his 79th birthday with him at a concert in a church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, his hometown. Tom Rush is a folk, blues, and New England legend. My favorite song by Tom? Kids These Days.
