At 83, the Energizer Bunny of drummers is still on the road selling out venues wherever he goes.

Hey, it’s the beginning of the weekend and what better way to kick it off than with great music in the style of the old radio stations…except without the commercial advertising. Speaking of founding fathers, this guy is one of the founding fathers of rock n’ roll, baby. John Lennon once said if you could give rock n’ roll a different name, it would be Chuck Berry. Mr. Lennon should know, in fact, and today we put Chuck Berry In the Spotlight.

8:00 p.m. The Allman Brothers Band Live at The Cow Palace, Daly City, CA, December 31, 1973

The Brothers give us a New Year’s Eve concert to be remembered at The Cow Palace just outside of San Francisco. It’s just what you’d expect from one of the greatest blues-rock bands on the planet.

We haven’t heard this one in a bit, so we give you one of the best of the blues ladies in Susan Tedeschi. Proud to say that she’s Boston born and raised, and is now a member of one of the finest big blues bands on the planet, Tedeschi Trucks who will play Boston this coming September.

Before, in between and after our blues programming today we’ve got our big, wide Open Stream with The Music Mermaid. As you know, she has impeccable taste in music and you just never know what she’ll tap in to.

Although Court and Spark remains my favorite in this Mitchell jazz-influenced genre, The Hissing of Summer Lawns continues that trend with a more experimental approach. Her seventh studio album includes jazz-rock contributors The L.A. Express and The Jazz Crusaders, along with appearances by James Taylor, Graham Nash and David Crosby.

4:00 p.m. Paul McCartney Live at The Cavern Club, Liverpool, UK, December 14, 1999 NEW!

We start McCartney’s festival with a live recording of his 1999 show at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, where it all started with The Beatles. The show was in support of his album Run Devil Run, so you’ll hear a lot of great fifties and early sixties covers from those who influenced both his and The Beatles’ music here.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Paul McCartney

This particular set includes not only Macca’s work with Wings and his solo efforts, but many of his Beatle hits also, and will close out today’s programming.
