Good morning. First, I apologize for no blog entry yesterday; but the music show did go on. Yesterday’s Harris loss hit hard. First of all, I believe that some come along in politics who are special and I believe Kamala Harris is one of them. Many factors led to this point: misogyny being one of them; racism being another. We do not yet have gender equality. We must get there.

3:00 p.m. John Prine Live at The Other (Bitter) End, Greenwich Village, New York, December 1975 NEW!

The late and great John Prine is certainly most remembered for his magnificent Angel For Montgomery, a composition that became Bonnie Raitt’s signature song. However, John Prine had a way with the twist of a phrase that few others did, often writing about the human condition with a bit of dry sarcasm. Tonight we have him live from what was once and then again, The Bitter End in New York. During this particular time, it was renamed The Other End.

We close this day out with our five-hour collection of songs about colors in the title, lyrics or both. In her third studio album, Nyro sings about the romantic experience and past lovers in a darker tone than on Eli & The Thirteenth Confession (which has already been on our AOW roster), but New York Tendaberry would prove to be the most commercially successful album of her career. As we have said in previous write-ups about Laura Nyro, she spent most of her career making others successful with her great compositions, but there is nothing like hearing Laura singer her own stuff.

This is The Beach Boys eleventh studio release, although it was pretty much a Brian Wilson tour-de-force solo project of major proportions. He composed the majority of this by himself, spurred on by a mystical revelation (there was a lot of that going around those days) and by the work of The Beatles. It is certainly considered one of the greatest and most influential albums in popular music history.
