We’ve Got Linda Ronstadt In the Spotlight, Our ‘Looks Like Rain’ Playlist, and Roy Orbison on Monday, September 25, 2023

Good morning, music lovers! We’re back to the work week and we’ve got a great lineup today with a couple of programs we haven’t aired in a while!

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Linda Ronstadt

The Queen of Rock (and our resident favorite female artist) was a bit of a misnomer after the seventies because Ronstadt could sing just about any genre she wanted in an impressive manner. This playlist proves it.

3:00 p.m. Looks Like Rain: Various Artists

It’s pouring here today, so this is appropriate. Who’s singing about the rain? You’ll hear The Rascals, Willie Nelson, the Grateful Dead, The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Poco, James Taylor, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Carole King, Irma Thomas, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Melanie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Eurythmics, Fats Domino, America, Linda Ronstadt, ,The James Gang, Joni Mitchell, The Searchers, The Eagles, Electric Light Orchestra, The Lovin’ Spoonful and more!

8:00 p.m. Roy Orbison & Friends: The Original Black & White Concert

On September 30, 1987 at the Ambassador Hotel’s Cocoanut Grove Nightclub, Roy Orbison and his friends got together for a concert of his many hits and it was filmed entirely in black & white. Those who participated included Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, k.d. lang, and Tom Waits. These folks sang background on many of the songs and played guitar as well. The backing band was the TCB band, who backed Elvis from 1969 until his death in 1977: Glen D. Hardin on piano, James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry Scheff on bass, and Ronnie Tutt on drums. A splendid time was had by all.

It’s a perfect day to tune us in. We’re here and we’re ready to rock and roll, as they say. So, let’s get our shit together and get this show on the road.

Midweek Brings Our ‘What’s In a Name’ EP, Buddy Holly as Our Singer-Songwriter and Our ‘Money, Honey’ Playlist Later, Wednesday, August 2, 2023

Good morning, musicologists! We’ve got a great midweek lineup today starting with our ‘What’s In a Name’ EP! But there’s more, so read on for details!

Here’s your midweek lineup:

9:00 a.m. What’s In a Name: Various Artists

What’s in a name? Some people say a lot. Others say names mean nothing. But the music world has certainly made plenty of music about names. You’ll hear Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Them, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Carly Simon, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, the Kinks, Three Dog Night, The Association, Joni Mitchell, Badfinger, Linda Ronstadt, Steely Dan, Chi Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, James Tayor, Tony Joe White and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Buddy Holly

Buddy Holly is back for another spin as our featured singer-songwriter for this week.

8:00 p.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

We close out the programming with songs about money, lots of it or the lack of it, from Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Guess Who, Randy Newman, Barrett Strong, The Kinks, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Tom Waits, The Byrds, Slim Harpo, J.J. Cale, J. Geils Band, Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, Albert King and more!

We’re at midweek and it’s all downhill to the weekend from here. We’ve got some great stuff lined up to help get you there. We’re on 24/7, totally free of charge, and without commercial interruption.

And Boom. It’s Monday. We’ve Got ‘Live’ Kinks, Our ‘Money Honey’ Playlist, and Carole King. And Plenty of Open Stream, December 5, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists. (And haters of Monday mornings.) We cannot flirt with time and make this another day, but we can help you get through this one with some good music.

Here’s today’s musical mashup:

11:00 a.m. The Kinks Live at The Hippodrome Theatre, London, UK, July 14, 1974 NEW!

This is a brand new one to us here in The Mermaid Lounge. As I said, we shop on a bunch of venues (of which Amazon and Apple are not part) and we have access to some cool stuff once in a while. This will be an experience we have together as we’ve not had the time to preview this one.

3:00 p.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

This one could easily become an EP. Along with love and heartache, money and wealth are popular topics for the rockers. But we try to resist making every single topic an EP and will probably settle for a volume two so we can spread the wealth. At any rate, you will hear Elvis Presley, the Guess Who, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, Monty Python (yes, that Monty Python), Tom Petty, Tom Waits, The Byrds, Slim Harpo, Rosanne Cash, Albert King, Tom Rush, The Wallflowers, Allen Toussaint, Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Laura Nyro and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Carole King

This is our second airing of this week’s featured Singer-Songwriter, and a brilliant one at that. We will have one more airing of this later in the week. Time TBD.

We begin yet another work week as we mosey through the month of December and head for a new year. But we still have the (ugh) holidays to get through. I suppose if I didn’t work in retail, I may feel differently about them. But I digress. Did I mention that we’re totally free of charge? That’s one thing you won’t have to worry about. Paying for your music. We realize we have limitations compared to Spotify and others, but this is radio, and radio is where you don’t exactly know what song is coming next. Reminds me of my youth laying in the driveway with my friends listening to my old transistor. Good times.

On Thursday, We’re Talking About Money, Honey, We Have Our AOW, and Laura Nyro In The Spotlight Later, June 2, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We’ve got a great Thursday lined up as we talk about one of the planet’s favorite subjects: Money. We also have our Album of The Week and Laura Nyro up later on

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

I confess that Money, Honey is one of my favorite songs in all of rock n’ roll, and I heard it on this very radio station one day and decided to create a playlist around it. You’ll hear Elvis Presley, The Guess Who, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Randy Newman, Bruce Springsteen, Allen Toussaint, The Wallflowers, Chuck Berry, Laura Nyro, Willie Nelson, The J. Geils Band, Tom Waits, Pink Floyd, J. J. Cale, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Tom Rush, Albert King, The Traveling Wilburys, Barrett Strong, The Kinks, and more!

3:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Forget About It by Alison Krauss

We’re on our next-to-last airing of this fine album. On Saturday, we’ll have the finale, and then a brand new album come Sunday morning. Get on it while you can!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Laura Nyro

Laura Nyro’s songwriting helped out many artists over her career, like Three Dog Night, The Fifth Dimension, and Barbra Streisand, to name just a few. But there’s nothing like hearing Laura Nyro sing them herself. Tonight you get the opportunity.

We’re on the downslide to the weekend, and it’ll be a three-day weekend for me. I have radio station musical upgrades on the “to do” list on my desk. We’re beefing up for summer with new playlists and new music for the general rotation. Join us. We’re free and we’re on 24/7 unmolested by commercial advertising. What’s not to love?
