Monday Delivers ‘Live’ Van Morrison, Our ‘Under the Sun and Moon’ Multi-Artist Playlist, and Bob Dylan & George Harrison Together at Columbia Studios, December 19, 2022

Good morning, music lovers. It’s once again the beginning of the week, but it is also holiday week so maybe that takes the edge off just a hair. We’ve got just the right music to start your week with here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Here’s your Monday, Monday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Van Morrison Live in San Francisco, December 1993 NEW!

This is actually a compilation of ‘live’ performances by Morrison from 1993 recorded December 12, 17 and 18 at both the Masonic Auditorium and The Mystic Theatre. Morrison is in fine R & B and blues mode here, and he brings along special guests to help him out, like Candy Dulfer, John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Georgie Fame. Shana Morrison, his daughter is even along for the ride, handling the vocals on Beautiful Vision. It’s a veritable musical celebration.

3:00 p.m. Under the Sun & Moon: Various Artists

We bring you a couple of hours of great music with songs about the sun and moon in the title, lyrics, or both. You’ll hear The Beatles, Nina Simone, Norah Jones, Bill Withers, Little Feat, Donovan, Cream, Cat Stevens, The Animals, Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Gordon Lightfoot, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Kinks, Valerie Carter, The Doors, America and more!

7:00 p.m. Bob Dylan & George Harrison: The Columbia Studios Sessions, May 1, 1970

Bob Dylan snuck into Columbia Studios B on May Day in 1970 and recorded for twelve hours with special guest George Harrison. We’ve got that for you right here this evening. This was originally a bootleg (our version), but it was later included in a Dylan box set. Enjoy two masters at work before The Traveling Wilburys.

Here we are again close to yet another year. It’s officially Christmas week, and we’re not going to be playing a steady diet of Christmas music. We’re going to keep on keeping on under the guidance of The Music Mermaid, our music maven. We’re totally free and devoid of commercial advertising. We also don’t ask you for a subscription or your credit card numbers. Give the gift of music this holiday season by forwarding our link.

Midweek is Here and So Is Our ‘Female Species’ EP and Some ‘Live’ Kinks Later, Wednesday, December 7, 2022

We keep it simple at midweek with our ‘Female Species’ EP, not to be confused with the ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP. You’ll see what we mean below. We’ve also got some ‘live’ Kinks later.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Female Species: Various Artists

Not to be confused with ‘Ladies Day Out,’ this EP consists of songs about girls, women, ladies and other terms meant to describe the fairer sex. You’ll hear songs by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jackson Browne, Talking Heads, The Boogaloo Swamis, John Mayall, Hot Tuna, The Eagles, Elvis Presley, Electric Light Orchestra, Fleetwood Mac, Percy Sledge, The Beatles, America, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Roy Orbison, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, Linda Ronstadt, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Rascals, Peter & Gordon and more!

7:00 p.m. The Kinks Live at The Hippodrome Theatre, London, UK, July 14, 1974

We actually aired this on Monday, but our server had a minor meltdown and this show was never played in its entirety. We are making up for that today by repeating it this evening. This one was recorded live for airing on the BBC.

Before, in between, and after we give you that wide Open Stream under the watchful eye of The Music Mermaid who, as you know, has impeccable taste in music. Of course, you know we are totally free of charge every day. No surprises. No lies.

We Begin Another (Albeit, Short) Work Week With Nanci Griffith, Neil Young and Our All About Blue Too Playlist, Monday, November 21, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s another Monday in The Mermaid Lounge and we face another work week. But hey, it’s a shortened work week, so that’s a bonus. Speaking of getting a bonus, we’ve got some great music today, including a new ‘live’ Neil Young performance later.

Here’s your Moan-Day lineup:

11:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Nanci Griffith

We give you Nanci’s second spin as our featured Singer-Songwriter for this week. We will hear this selection at least one more time later in the week before we flip the switch again. Get on it. She’s great.

3:00 p.m. All About Blue Too: Various Artists

We aired the first volume of this a couple weeks ago, so it’s only fitting we air the second half. You’ll hear Robert Johnson, Paul Simon, Laura Nyro, Shawn Colvin, Phoebe Snow, Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, Doc Watson, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Association, Buddy Guy, Linda Ronstadt, Electric Light Orchestra, Guy Clark, Little Feat, The Smithereens, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and more! It’s a couple of hours dedicated to my favorite color.

7:00 p.m. Neil Young Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, May 16, 1974 NEW!

This was a “surprise” live performance by Young and it was recorded and broadcast on WNEW-FM in New York. It was originally only a fan-recorded event, but it was eventually officially released in 2017. When the release came out, there were two songs that were also live performances but not at this venue. We have also included those live songs here and they are the last two songs in this set. Enjoy. Neil Young is always a treat in our book.

Blah. Blah. Blah. I know I must sound like a broken record, but this is a great radio station and it’s time you find that out for realz. Know what I mean? Join us (no fees, no credit card, no personal info required).

The Programming’s Light With Only Our New AOW, and ‘The Female Species’ EP, But There’s Plenty of Music From The Mermaid Lounge, Sunday, November 6, 2022

Good Morning All! Did you all remember to change the clocks? I’m not sure we’ve actually “gained” anything because I certainly don’t feel any differently. But here? We’re models of consistency. We’ve got our new Album of the Week and ‘The Female Species’ multi-artist EP!

Here’s your Sunday programming:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Sweet Harmony by Maria Muldaur NEW!

Maria Muldaur’s career began in Greenwich Village during the great sixties folk revival, but her repertoire is anything but limited as she’s built a career around folk, blues, country, gospel and R & B. This is Muldaur’s third studio album and it’s a beauty. She invites J. J. Cale, Waddy Wachtel, Linda Ronstadt, Bill Payne (of Little Feat), and Russ Kunkel along for the ride. Check the amazing vocals on the song Sweet Harmony, featuring Linda Ronstadt and Wendy Waldman on backing vocals, Arthur Adams on baritone vocals, and Amos Garrett on bass vocals. Amazing.

3:00 p.m. The Female Species: Various Artists

This is not to be confused with Ladies Day Out. That’s coming soon. This playlist features songs about girls, women, ladies and other words ascribed to the superior sex. You’ll hear from Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Rascals, Peter & Gordon, Talking Heads, Jackson Browne, The Boogaloo Swamis, John Mayall, Hot Tuna, The Eagles, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Percy Sledge, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, America, Roy Orbison, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin and more!

Come on, folks. The clocks have changed and it’s a day of rest. It’s the perfect time to tune in, turn on and drop out. It’s Sunday. And we’re here in the Lounge for your listening pleasure.

The Beatles 2022 ‘Revolver’ is Our Album of The Week, ‘In Your Dreams’ is Our Featured EP, and The Heartbreakers as Cover Band Later, Sunday, October 30, 2022

Good Morning, Beatle Fans, and we know that we certainly are here in The Mermaid Lounge because they are one of our House Bands (the Heartbreakers being the other). We’ve got a treat for you today with the new Revolver release as our AOW.

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Revolver by The Beatles (The 2022 Giles Martin Remix) NEW!

We certainly have already featured Revolver here once at our early stages of life, but this version is the newly remixed version by Giles Martin, son of the man known as The Fifth Beatle, the late Sir George Martin. This is part of the new 5-CD set that we recently got our hands on, released yesterday. We will be featuring this music as part of our general rotation and we will be playing the rest of the material on it as programmed sessions throughout the next several weeks. The package takes you on a musical journey through the making of what is often considered The Beatles most significant album.

2:00 p.m. In Your Dreams: Various Artists

Our featured EP today is ‘In Your Dreams’ with songs about dreams and dreaming. You’ll hear the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Aerosmith, Crowded House, the Moody Blues, Van Morrison, The Eurythmics, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Nanci Griffith, The Electric Prunes, Fleetwood Mac, Roy Orbison, The Mamas & The Papas, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimmy Buffett, the Allman Brothers Band, Supertramp, Randy Newman, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Widespread Panic, The Youngbloods, Jimmy Ruffin, Jackson Browne, Mudcrutch, Patsy Cline, Joe Walsh, Bruce Springsteen, k.d. lang, Dusty Springfield and more!

9:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Under the Covers

The same qualities that make The Heartbreakers a great rock n’ roll band are the same qualities that make them the greatest cover band in music as they pay homage to those who have inspired their work. Waiting for them to pull one of these songs out of their bag of musical tricks was always one of the best features of their live shows. Enjoy this playlist as we wind down our annual Tom Petty month. Tomorrow will be the last day.

It’s Sunday and remember, if there is a big guy up there, he even took today off. Sit back, kick off your shoes, grab the beverage of your choice, and tune us in. We are totally free 24/7 because we are all about sharing the music.

We Are at Midweek With Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP and a Return to Tom Petty Month With a Great ‘Live’ Show in Lucca, Wednesday, October 26, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have a great day lined up with our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP (appropriately, we are on our second day of gloomy weather here) and a return to Tom Petty Month!

We start very early today with ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Here’s today’s anything-but-gloomy lineup:

8:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

We like facts here in The Mermaid Lounge, even though we know our conservative counterparts have absolutely no use for facts. The fact is, however, that the earth is comprised of 71% water and today we pay it musical homage with Paul McCartney, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Otis Redding, Neil Young, Elton John, The Doobie Brothers, Valerie Carter, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Loggins & Messina, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Linda Ronstadt, Spirit, The Grass Roots, The Beach Boys, Lindisfarne, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Steely Dan, Ton Rush, Johnny Rivers, The Beatles, America, Donovan and more!

7:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at Piazza Napoleone, Lucca, Italy, June 29, 2012

Without a doubt, one of our favorite Heartbreakers’ concerts ever right here, live from the Piazza Napoleone in Lucca, in my ancestral homeland, now fully engulfed in fascism. So, don’t say it can’t happen here. I know I digress and I have a “no politics” policy, but I fear that people need a warning shot about what’s going on around the world and that the U.S. is in real crisis right now.

Here’s the part where I tell you that you will be treated to a boatload of wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid throughout the afternoon. We are free to all 24/7. No lie. No surprises. Come on in!

Whew! It’s a Crazy Saturday Here With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, Our AOW, Van Morrison ‘live’ in Belfast, and LIVE DEAD! October 8, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! We have a great line-up for you today. It’s another of those Grand Central Music Saturdays here, but we till give you far more Open Stream than anything else!

We’ve got that Travelin’ Jones going on early this morning!

Here’s your musical journey:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Today, you’ll hear from Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Eagles, The Doors, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Mudcrutch, Joan Bae, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more!

4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Odessy and Oracle by The Zombies FINAL AIRING!

It’s the swan song for this album today; our final airing of this great, long-underappreciated effort by The Zombies. But tomorrow morning we’ve got another great trip down Psychedelic Lane planned.

7:00 p.m. Van Morrison Live at The Grand Opera Houe, Belfast, Ireland, March 11 & 12, 1983

Van the Man recorded live in Belfast over a two-night engagement. Not always the most personable man to spend money on, but an amazing singer-songwriter and talent nonetheless.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, November 7, 1969

Another soundboard recording from the worlds most popular jam band in a totally historical venue. A rare repeat here, but it has been a while. It’ll be like new.

I’ll be off soon on a mission of mercy and then to the flats for another day in the wonderful world of retail. My destiny awaits as you hang out here with The Music Mermaid. As you know, she has impeccable taste in music. Enjoy your day.
