I find it hard to believe that people wouldn’t know Dr. John (aka, the Nitetripper) a man whose music defied labels by combining blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, funk and rock n’ roll.

3:00 p.m.    Badfinger Live at the BBC 1972-1973   NEW!

Here I am in 2020, and I’m still a big-time Badfinger fan. This was, simply put, a band that made some great music. Had they not been screwed over by their manager, the sky was the limit (in the immortal words of Tom Petty).

6:00 p.m.     Album of the Week: The Band by The Band

The Band is a thing of beauty. There is nothing bad in their music catalogue, and they have withstood the test of time.

During 1969’s Nashville Skyline sessions, Bob Dylan teamed up with Johnny Cash to record a dozen songs, only one of which made it to the album. These informal recordings are relaxed and loose, and are easy on the ears…a meeting of two giants. The back-up musicians include Carl Perkins on guitar.

3:00 p.m.    Dusty in London: The Lost British Recordings

Dusty Springfield truly epitomized the term “blue-eyed soul,” and her career spanned five decades.

6:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Neil Young

Speaking of legendary artists, Neil Young has been a part of our musical DNA since the sixties as well, as a solo artist and with the Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Today in the Spotlight, we have Mudcrutch. The band that would morph into the force that’s known as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. In reality, Mudcrutch was a force unto itself, returning under Petty in 2008 to make some brilliant music. Failing to see this band during it’s small-venue tour in 2016 is one of the great regrets of my musical life.

6:00 p.m.     In the Spotlight: The Music of Led Zeppelin   NEW!

We’re spending some quality time with the original headbangers tonight. Formed in London in 1968, they celebrated their 50th year in service to the musical masses in 2018.

The band that began as Bob Dylan’s back-up band went on to become one of the most influential bands of its generation, and delivered the goods every time out. This effort came after Music From Big Pink, another great musical achievement. But this one saw Robbie Robertson take charge, and the The Band took a huge leap forward.

The Band, along with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and The Beatles, remains one of #BecomeUngovernable’s favorite house bands.

6:00 p.m.    In the Spotlight: The Music of Little Richard   NEW!

Richard Wayne Penniman, also known as Little Richard, was a rock n’ roll pioneer who broke down many barriers in his lifetime. He influenced many who came after him, like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, whose early efforts were steeped in rhythm & blues. He passed away yesterday at the age of 87, and today we pay tribute to his greatness.

It’s Mother’s Day. Tune us in. You won’t regret it.

We have featured the Trio albums in the past, but these are the Trio Sessions, with remasters, alternate versions and previously unreleased material. If you’ve never heard angels sing before, you are about to.

My favorite road warriors return. To fully appreciate this band, you had to see them on stage. Maybe you never did. I suggest you might want to seek out some concert footage. They are everywhere. For a reason. This show is from August 3, 1999 when they played the Target Center in Minneapolis.

4:00 p.m.   Album of the Week: Jackson Browne’s Running On Empty

Browne’s road anthem. Recorded entirely on the road: Live on stage. On tour buses. Backstage. And in hotel rooms. A classic.

7:00 p.m.   Steely Dan Live at The Woodlands Pavillion, Houston, Texas  NEW!

Our brand new musical offering comes from a great band. I almost believed the people who said they sucked in concert because they couldn’t reproduce their sound. Then, I went to see them for myself. I have to tell you, I had a great time every time. Sounded just fine to me. Enjoy this one from 1993.
