We Begin Another (Albeit, Short) Work Week With Nanci Griffith, Neil Young and Our All About Blue Too Playlist, Monday, November 21, 2022

Good Morning, Music Lovers! It’s another Monday in The Mermaid Lounge and we face another work week. But hey, it’s a shortened work week, so that’s a bonus. Speaking of getting a bonus, we’ve got some great music today, including a new ‘live’ Neil Young performance later.

Here’s your Moan-Day lineup:

11:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Nanci Griffith

We give you Nanci’s second spin as our featured Singer-Songwriter for this week. We will hear this selection at least one more time later in the week before we flip the switch again. Get on it. She’s great.

3:00 p.m. All About Blue Too: Various Artists

We aired the first volume of this a couple weeks ago, so it’s only fitting we air the second half. You’ll hear Robert Johnson, Paul Simon, Laura Nyro, Shawn Colvin, Phoebe Snow, Marvin Gaye, Van Morrison, Doc Watson, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Association, Buddy Guy, Linda Ronstadt, Electric Light Orchestra, Guy Clark, Little Feat, The Smithereens, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and more! It’s a couple of hours dedicated to my favorite color.

7:00 p.m. Neil Young Live at The Bottom Line, New York City, May 16, 1974 NEW!

This was a “surprise” live performance by Young and it was recorded and broadcast on WNEW-FM in New York. It was originally only a fan-recorded event, but it was eventually officially released in 2017. When the release came out, there were two songs that were also live performances but not at this venue. We have also included those live songs here and they are the last two songs in this set. Enjoy. Neil Young is always a treat in our book.

Blah. Blah. Blah. I know I must sound like a broken record, but this is a great radio station and it’s time you find that out for realz. Know what I mean? Join us (no fees, no credit card, no personal info required).

Saturday Brings a Trip on The Psychedelic Express, The Final Airing of Our AOW, and Nanci Griffith Featured as Our New Singer-Songwriter, November 19, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! Today we take a prolonged trip on The Psychedelic Express. We’ve also got our final airing of Janis Joplin’s AOW and we bring on Nanci Griffith as our featured singer-songwriter for this week.

Here’s today’s lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama by Janis Joplin FINAL AIRING!

Today we bit a fond farewell to the only solo album ever released during Janis Joplin’s short lifetime. For this album, she brought on the Kozmic Blues Band as she moved from psychedelic music into a more blues-driven sound, and would go on tour with them later. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new album for you.

11:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

No tickets required. Just get on board with Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, The Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and many more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Nanci Griffith NEW!

We feature Nanci Griffith as this week’s singer-songwriter whose musical style encompassed folk and country, and what she called “folkabilly.” She was a frequent performer on Austin City Limits and, although she suffered from severe writer’s block from 2004 through 2009, she remains one of the most respected singer-songwriters in popular music. She often recorded duets with others, including Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Don McLean, Jimmy Buffett, and Willie Nelson. You can read more about Nanci Griffith here.

Get on board, people. You don’t need no stinking tickets, a membership, a credit card or anything else to enjoy the great music we have to offer. We’re here 24/7 totally free of charge and with no commercial interruption. There’s no time like the present, as they say.

Friday Brings The ‘Folk Music From A-To-Z’ EP and John Prine’s Final Turn in This Week’s Singer-Songwriter Series, November 18, 2022

Here’s your Friday lineup:

11:00 a.m. Folk Music From A-To-Z: Various Artists

In this playlist you’ll hear John Prine, Dave Van Ronk, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Odetta, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, The Band, Eric Andersen, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Nanci Griffith, Jesse Winchester, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Lead Belly, Tim Hardin, The Kingston Trio, Simon & Garfunkel, Richie Havens, Jackson Browne, Guy Clark, James Taylor, The Carter Family, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of John Prine FINAL AIRING!

John Prine gets his final airing as our featured Singer-Songwriter for this week, and a fine choice he was. Nanci Griffith takes the spotlight on Saturday.

It’s a nice, low-programming day here in The Mermaid Lounge. Less programming = greater open stream. You’ll want to join your friends from around the globe as we bring you the finest sounds in classic rock with a focus on the sixties and seventies. No hip-hop, no disco, no rap, but we also have plenty of soul music and R & B because that’s the real stuff.

She has since become one of the most respected music artists and songwriters in the business. You can read about her here, and you can hear her for yourselves tonight at ten.

We’re off to an early start today, so I can’t spend a lot of time writing here. Suffice it to say that you can look at the blog post from yesterday and read the final paragraph. It’s the same every day, kids. You’ve just got to take that leap of faith and give us a shot. We are totally free. The only thing we require is a bit of time.

One more time: This would be a great day to tune us in and get a feel for what we’re all about. Hell, lock your office door, pull up a tab and turn us on. Find a project that you have to get done. Put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door and get your musical shit together.
