Here’s Monday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. All About Blue, Various Artists

Hey, it’s not just about EP’s here in The Mermaid Lounge. We have all kinds of multi-artist playlists, including this one with the color ‘blue’ in the title, lyrics or both! Emmylou Harris’ career began back in 1969 and she is still on the move. During that time she has won 14 Grammy Awards, the Polar Music Prize (and many other awards too numerous to mention here), been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Harris is rightfully credited with making country more accessible to a wider audience, and today we put her In the Spotlight.

7:00 p.m. Creedence Clearwater Revival Live at The Fillmore West, San Francisco, July 4, 1971

When I was young and dumb, I just assumed that these guys came straight out of the Louisiana Bayou. In fact, what we have are four guys from Berkeley who sounded like they came straight out of the Louisiana Bayou. They also just happened to make some of the greatest rock n’ roll on the planet. We love these guys here in The Lounge. Today we have the live from The Fillmore for your listening pleasure. Cook up some crawfish and shrimp and enjoy.

Here we are again. Yesterday we added listeners from India and today they seem to be back here again today. Argentina has also joined the crowd this morning as well. Where are you?

It’s Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge and We’ve Got George Harrison’s Album of The Week, and Our ‘A Little Bit O’Soul’ EP On Tap, December 12, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! It’s a great day here in The Mermaid Lounge. I have two days off from retail hell and that means I can indulge myself in music. You can too. We’ve got a great line-up today.

Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison brought George’s final album to fruition posthumously. Read on.

Here’s today’s line-up:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Brainwashed by George Harrison NEW!

Today’s AOW was George Harrison’s twelfth and final album. It was not completed when he died, but his wish was for his son, Dhani, to finish what he started. Enter Jeff Lynne, commander of ELO and George’s mate in The Traveling Wilburys. Together, he and Dhani Harrison did George proud. This is undoubtedly one of George’s finest albums, released on November 18, 2002, nearly a full year after his death. It’s a great story about a great album, and you can read more about it here.

3:00 p.m. A Little Bit O’ Soul: Various Artists

We’re back with our soul and R & B extended playlist today. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, James Brown, The Shirelles, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Nina Simone, LaVern Baker, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Edwin Starr, Fontella Bass, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Etta James, and more! Good Morning, Musicologists! Nobody can ever call Saturdays boring here in The Mermaid Lounge. We’re kicking it off a bit early today, so let’s put the speed on.

Today we give you our latest EP called ‘The Female Species’

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Smiley Smile by The Beach Boys FINAL AIRING!

It’s sayonara after today for this “theoretical” album of nineteen songs that actually never came to fruition. It’s complicated. If you want to learn more about Smiley Smile before it goes away, simply click on the Album of the Week image in the sidebar!

12:00 p.m. The Female Species, Various Artists UPDATED!

It’s our newest EP and it has already been through one brief update (last night). Songs that use the terms woman, girl, or lady in either title or lyrics or both! You’ll hear Talking Heads, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jackson Browne, The Boogaloo Swamis, John Mayall, Hot Tuna, Elvis Presley, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, not to be confused with Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Percy Sledge, America, Roy Orbison, Billy Joel, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Bob Dylan, The Temptations, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt, and more!

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Jakob Dylan (& The Wallflowers)

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA, August 13, 1975

We’ve Got ‘Travelin’ Fever’ at Mid-Week, and We Put Steely Dan In the Spotlight Later, Wednesday, December 8, 2021

Gooooooood Morning, Music Lovers everywhere! We’ve hit mid-week once again and we’ve got our most excellent ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP to kick off the day. We put Steely Dan front and center a bit later.

We put The Dan In the Spotlight later, but first we go Travelin’

Here’s your mid-week programming:

11:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

In the time of COVID, I’m not interested in planes, trains, or boats packed with people, so I’ll live vicariously through this great EP. You’ll hear Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, The Box Tops, Canned Heat, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, The Eagles, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, Del Shannon, Asleep at The Wheel, Jesse Winchester, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Led Zeppelin, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and more!

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of Steely Dan

I’ve heard some pretty dumb comments about Steely Dan. You know, like they can’t reproduce their sound “live.” Having seen them, that’s bullshit. Steely Dan made some of the absolute best music of the seventies and eighties. They fused pop, jazz, and rock into a sound all it’s own. They are In the Spotlight here tonight.

It’s December, so give yourself a Christmas present that’s totally free. Better still, try us out and then give a gift to someone you know loves music. Tell them about us. That’s free too. No commercials. No mouthy DJ’s. No hidden costs. No personal information required. Merry Fucking Christmas. Tune us in.

It’s totally uninterrupted!

7:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue, Volume Three: Various Artists

It’s Saturday in The Mermaid Lounge and We Bring You (Appropriately) Our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP, LIVE DEAD, and Our Album of The Week, December 4, 2021

Good Morning, Music Lovers around the globe! What would a Mermaid be without water? Right? Today we’ve got our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ EP along with our AOW and LIVE DEAD! later.

Water covers 71% of the planet. And today we sing its praises with our EP.

Here’s your Saturday line-up:

11:00 a.m. Water, Water Everywhere: Various Artists

It is a fact that 71% of the planet is composed of water. Where would we be without it? Today, we have our EP dedicated to water of all kinds in the title, lyrics or both. You’ll hear Valerie Carter, Bob Dylan, The Band, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Bruce Springsteen, Deep Purple, Steely Dan, Tom Rush, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Grass Roots, Bruce Hornsby & The Range, Lindisfarne, Electric Light Orchestra, Gordon Lightfoot, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Mudcrutch, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tracy Nelson, Al Green, B.J. Thomas, Foo Fighters, and more!

7:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Rising Sons featuring Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of this great album, so be sure to tune it in. Tomorrow when you roll out of bed, we’ll have a brand new featured album.

10:00 p.m. LIVE DEAD! The Grateful Dead Live at McArthur Court, University of Oregon, Eugene, January 22, 1978 NEW!

Another new one from the ultimate road and jam band. John Mayer has already said that Dead Again may well continue on after the remaining Grateful Dead members retire. It’s a testament to their longevity, but I will say it again: Any band without Jerry Garcia is not The Grateful Dead. Period. Without the rest of the band, they’re really not The Grateful Dead. That still stands.

It’s Saturday and The Mermaid Lounge is cookin’ with the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Brazil, Russian Federation, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, and points beyond all tuned in. Why? Because they “get it.” When will you?

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of George Harrison

Monday of this week (November 29) marked the 20th anniversary of George Harrison leaving this planet. Today we pay homage to Harrison as a Beatle, as the founder of The Traveling Wilburys, and as a solo artist.

Tom Petty once said of George Harrison, “I would assure all his fans that George was as beautiful as they pictured him. And maybe more.” Nothing else needs to be said here.

It’s A Keep-It-Simple Sunday With A Visit From The Brits and a Brand New Album of The Week, November 28, 2021

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got a simple recipe for happy today, and it’s really rather simple. We pay homage to our British Invasion innovators with five hours of uninterrupted stream, and give you a great new Album of The Week. The rest is wide Open Stream courtesy of The Music Mermaid.

Here’s Sunday’s line-up:

11:00 a.m Album of The Week: Rising Sons by Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder NEW!

This is a long story better told here, but I’ll give you the short version. Back in 1965, two 17-year-olds decided not to take the same path as Kyle Rittenhouse, and instead started a band named The Rising Sons. Their names were Ryland Cooder (better known as Ry Cooder) and Henry St. Claire Fredericks (better known as Taj Mahal). Ry Cooder, who Linda Ronstadt continually says is the best guitarist she’s ever met, played six- and twelve-string guitar, mandolin, the bottleneck and slide guitars, and dobro. Taj Mahal played harmonica, piano, and guitar. He was also the vocalist. Other members of the band included guitarist Jesse Lee Kincaid, bassist Gary Marker, and drummer Ed Cassidy (who would go on soon to form the band, Spirit). Their band was short-lived, but both Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal went on to be a couple of the most innovative musicians on the planet. Today, we give you their album, Rising Sons.

3:00 p.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

About mid-afternoon here in the states we kick off our homage to the bands of the British Invasion and beyond. You’ll hear The Beatles (of course), The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Zombies, The Hollies, Yes, The Moody Blues, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Them, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Dave Clark Five, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees, The Yardbirds, The Pretenders, Lulu, Herman’s Hermits, Petula Clark, Blind Faith, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, and many more!

Come on, people, and get your musical freak on! Join our listeners from Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, the UK, Brazil, Greece, The Netherlands, Denmark, Russian Federation, Cleveland (no shit), Mexico, Spain, and points beyond. It’s Sunday and that’s a day of rest even if it is the holiday season. Say “No” to capitalism and tune us in. (Did I mention we’re not capitalists?)
