It’s Tuesday Bluesday With Our Big Blues EP, Canned Heat and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, December 24, 2024

Happy Tuesday Bluesday and Merry Christmas eve day! We’re giving you a great Christmas gift today with a new Canned Heat ‘Spotlight’ feature and some new live Bluesbreakers recorded by a Dutch fan in a bunch of London clubs in 1967!

Here’s your Tuesday Bluesday lineup:

9:00 a.m. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blues: Various Artists

Our biggest, baddest blues EP with the old, the new and the many who pay homage to the craft. You’ll hear Robert Johnson, Delbert McClinton, B. B. King, Little Walter, Slim Harpo, Ry Cooder, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, The Animals, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, The Yardbirds, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Allman Brothers Band, Elmore James, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Robert Cray Band, J. J. Cale, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, James Cotton, Koko Taylor, Marcia Ball, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Susan Tedeschi, Roomful of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf and more!

When we were kids, my friends and I just loved Canned Heat, and this was before we even realized they played the blues. They were simply one of the very best of the sixties bands. They still are.

8:00 p.m. John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers Live in London Clubs, 1967

This series of shows was recorded by a Dutch fan back in 1967 (the actual dates are not available anywhere) and was eventually cleaned up and released. This particular lineup included John Mayall (vocals, harmonica, organ), the great Peter Green (guitar), John McVie (bass) and Mick Fleetwood (drums).

Tuesday Bluesday is always a busy day, but there’s plenty of room for everyone! We’re on 24/7. We’re free. We don’t run commercial advertising. We’re all about the music. The button is, of course, below. See for yourselves.

Today It’s All About Luck, Followed By the All-Girl Revue Too, and Alison Krauss & Robert Plant on Friday, December 13, 2024

Here’s your Friday the 13th lineup:

10:00 a.m. Good Luck, Bad Luck, Dumb Luck: Various Artists

Is it good luck or bad luck? Or just plain dumb luck? You’ll find out from Cream, Taj Mahal, The Beatles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Albert King, Jethro Tull, Genesis, The Wallflowers, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney & Wings, Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Joe Walsh, Stevie Wonder, Loggins & Messina, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Fats Domino and more!

4:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue Too: Various Artists

We haven’t heard this one for a bit, so let’s take a spin with Amy Winehouse, Linda Ronstadt, Chi Coltrane, Carlene Carter, Emmylou Harris, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Maria Muldaur, Nicolette Larson, Janis Ian, Stevie Nicks, Joan Baez, Susan Tedeschi, Mary Wells, Grace Slick, Carole King and more!

I’m not sure anybody knew what to expect from this musical pairing, but it surely was an unlikely pairing. Nevertheless, it has produced two amazing albums and together live they are outstanding.

We’ve got a great lineup today, music lovers. It’s the perfect time to climb aboard! There is nothing required: No subscription. No credit card. See for yourselves. The button is below.

Sunday Brings Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, Live Townes Van Zandt, and a Karla Bonoff ‘Spotlight’ Feature, December 8, 2024

Good morning, music lovers! Life on the road and traveling are certainly two popular topics in music and we’ve got a great playlist today, followed by Townes Van Zandt live in London and closing with Karla Bonoff.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

We’re on the road with Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, Mudcrutch, The Traveling Wilburys, Tom Rush, Buffalo Springfield, The Guess Who and more!

4:00 p.m. Townes Van Zandt Live at Union Chapel, London, UK, April 29, 1994

The late, great singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt is in The Lounge this afternoon, possibly the only artist to approach the songwriting ability of Bob Dylan. Indeed, the discussion of whom is better continues. However, I say that we don’t have to continually pit one artist against the other. I love them both.

8:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Karla Bonoff

Speaking of singer-songwriters, we close out the evening with a ‘Spotlight’ feature with the great Karla Bonoff.

Before, in between and after our programming, we give you our big, wide Open Stream of incredible music. We don’t charge you. We don’t track you. We don’t ask you for information. The button is below.

Today We Hit the Road With ‘Travelin’ Fever’, Then It’s a Carole King ‘Spotlight’ & Badfinger at the BBC, November 7, 2024

Good morning. First, I apologize for no blog entry yesterday; but the music show did go on. Yesterday’s Harris loss hit hard. First of all, I believe that some come along in politics who are special and I believe Kamala Harris is one of them. Many factors led to this point: misogyny being one of them; racism being another. We do not yet have gender equality. We must get there.

This morning, we start out on the road with our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ EP, then it’s Carole King ‘In the Spotlight’ and Badfinger at the BBC from 1972-1973.

Here’s your musical lineup for Thursday:

9:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

We start out hitting the road with Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, Mudcrutch, The Travelin’ Wilburys, Tom Rush and more!

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: Carole King

From The Brill Building to Tapestry and beyond, we put one of the greatest singer-songwriters on the planet ‘In The Spotlight’ today!

8:00 p.m. Badfinger Live at The BBC, London, UK, June 8, 1972 and August 10, 1973

We close it out with friends of The Beatles. Badfinger was truly one of the absolute best power pop bands on the planet. We close out the programming with them tonight.

We’re here 24/7 with no commercial interruption and at no charge to our listeners. Sit back and relax with the best music rotation on the planet! The button is below.

Good morning, music lovers. It’s Sunday Funday in The Mermaid Lounge and we continue on with our Tom Petty celebration with a great Traveling Wilburys entry.

Here’s your Sunday Funday lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Traveling Wilburys: The Bootleg Collection

Always a favorite, both the supergroup (and this is a true supergroup) and this playlist of outtakes, alternate takes and extended sessions. What we essentially have here is five friends who harnessed that friendship to create some of the most amazing music on the planet. Roy was the first to go. Then George. Then Tom. But their music rocks on.

2:00 p.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Life on the road is a popular topic in popular music. Just ask Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, Mudcrutch, The Traveling Wilburys, Tom Rush, Buffalo Springfield, The Guess Who and more!

We then return to our big, wide Open Stream to take us through to morning. We’ll be back to close out our Tom Petty celebration with a Fillmore trifecta tomorrow! The button is below.

It’s ‘Live’ Steely Dan, a Beach Boys Spotlight, and Volume Five of The All-Girl Revue on Friday, September 6, 2024

Good morning, musicologists! We are on the cusp of the weekend and we’ve got three great pieces of programming for you today, starting with some new ‘live’ music from one of our favorites, Steely Dan!

Here’s your end-of-the-work-week lineup:

Undoubtedly one of the best bands to come out of the seventies. This was a stop on their very ambitious Art Crimes Tour, and many consider this performance one of their best-ever shows. Give it a listen.

4:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of The Beach Boys

We haven’t cued this one up in a while. Is there a better band that signifies the sounds of summer? We don’t think so. And then, there’s the genius of Brian Wilson.

8:00 p.m. The All-Girl Revue: Various Artists

We had a handful of these shorter shows from the ladies and, eventually, we rolled them into ‘Ladies Day Out’ and added even more! These come in handy when we need a fix. You’ll hear Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Jackie DeShannon, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Karla Bonoff, Wendy Waldman, Marcia Ball, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Judy Collins and more!

I’m here listening with you until retail hell calls, when The Music Mermaid will take over and help you through the afternoon. We’re on 24/7. We’re totally free. And there’s absofuckinglutely no commercial advertising. We’re all about the music.
