This great blues-rock band was formed back in 1969 by ex-Jefferson Airplane members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen and is ready to tour again in 2024. Although many members come and go and the lineup is fluid, the two anchors remain the constant. They are one of our favorite bands here in The Mermaid Lounge.

Bad humans have always been a topic for musicians. I’ve never seen him live myself, but I have seen him grace the stage once with Linda Ronstadt, and that was a religious experience. This playlist has a little bit of that, some of his music from Souther-Hillman-Furay, and plenty of his solo stuff.

8:00 p.m. Warren Zevon Live at Club Metro, Boston, MA, September 29, 1982

Club Metro is gone, but it does have its own Facebook page for nostalgia freaks. And Warren Zevon is gone. But his music lives on. Another great songwriter whose songs became a staple for the likes of Linda Ronstadt and others. He was struggling until she began to sing his songs, and he took it from there. One of the best.

Ringo Starr isn’t just a drummer, he’s actually a percussionist. While some have brushed off his drumming talents, we suggest that these critics are obsessed with drum solos that break up the mood of the song. That’s not Ringo. And his peers, like Dave Grohl, Stuart Copeland and Tre Cool know how inspirational his style has been over the years. In short, just as McCartney doesn’t play the bass like everyone else, Ringo has his own drumming style, sound and approach, and it has greatly enriched the Beatles music by giving every song just what it needs. Tonight we have his best performances.

I saw Mr. Bad Example live at the Berklee College of Music back in the day and everyone was pissed off that he was two hours late and we had to listen to 52 versions of Year Of The Cat by Al Stewart while waiting for him. But once he started singing, all was forgiven. It was a great show.
