Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

We’re back again this month to feature the great artists who took up residence in Laurel Canyon and banded together to make the sounds heard ’round the world. Together they forged what is now known as country-rock. 4:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds FINAL AIRING!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Bobbie Gentry NEW!

Bobbie Gentry was an enigma. She was a brilliant singer-songwriter who shunned the limelight. From day one, all she ever wanted to do was write songs for others to sing. It didn’t quite work out that way as she charted 11 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and four on the United Kingdom Top 40. Ode To Billie Joe, a Southern Gothic narrative, shot her to stardom in 1967 as it rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for four weeks. She was also one of the first female artists to compose and produce her own material. People say she simply disappeared. She didn’t. She simply did not want to be found. She retired to quiet solitude. But her musical legacy lives on.

Come on, people. It’s officially the weekend and we’ve got great music on 24/7 uninterrupted by commercial advertising and all completely free to you. Your money’s no good here. All you need is a free tab and to push the button below. We don’t follow you because we don’t have anything to sell you.

7:00 p.m. In the Spotlight: The Music of David Crosby NEW!

David Crosby passed a couple of days ago at the age of 81. Yeah, he could be caustic at times, but the same is true of Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison. What we prefer to remember is his contribution to the creation of both folk-rock and country-rock, and as a founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash (Neil Young would be added later and was in-and-out of the group over its musical life).Tonight we put him In the Spotlight where he belongs.

We’ve got a hell of a music lineup for you today. This one is not to be missed. We take a trip to New Orleans and give you two musical geniuses to boot. All free of charge. Your money is absolutely no good here. We’re all about the music and we are on non-stop 24/7, not just when we have programming.

Good morning, Musicologists! We’ve got a strong midweek lineup for you today as we kick it all off with those sweet Laurel Canyon sounds that fused country and rock. From there we move on to Jackson Browne and Dylan.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Music From Laurel Canyon: Various Artists

Laurel Canyon was a creative breeding ground for two generations of musicians as they pioneered the sounds of country-rock. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, The Beach Boys, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Doors, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Carole King, James Taylor, Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, Linda Ronstadt and more!

4:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Jackson Browne

Today we give Jackson Browne his second airing as our featured singer-songwriter. He spent a fair amount of time hanging in Laurel Canyon honing his craft.

8:00 p.m. Bob Dylan, Live in ’75: The Rolling Thunder Revue

Saturday Brings the ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, Volume Three of The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Adventure, and Dan Fogelberg as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter as the Holidays Approach, December 17, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists across the globe! Hope you’re all doing well as we tee it up in The Mermaid Lounge this morning. We’ve got a pretty full slate peppering our great wide Open Stream (a little Tom Petty imagery there).

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re talking real country here. And we’re also talking about the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen from the cross-fertilization center of the world: Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA 1997, Volume Three NEW!

The third and final installment as we roll out the brand new Heartbreakers’ compendium of their legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band. They threw away the script and kicked ass, and every one of them felt it was the most creative opportunity the band had, and the highlight of their time together. For the first time ever, there are more cover songs on a Heartbreakers album than original compositions. That was by design as they chose to pay homage to those artists who inspired them. They are, in our humble opinion, the best cover band on the planet.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg NEW!

It’s time to flip the switch to a new featured singer-songwriter, and Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underappreciated. Except here in The Mermaid Lounge, where we made him one of the very first artists to have a ‘Spotlight.’ Today he starts a week in the spotlight as our featured singer-songwriter.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat FINAL AIRING!

Tonight we bit a fond farewell to one of our favorite albums and bands as we close out this week’s featured album. We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new selection.

Saturday is always a bit of a busy day here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we never have more programming than open stream in a 24-hour cycle. We also never run commercial advertising or emply overly-talkative DJ’s. We just play music. Free of charge 24/7. No lie. No surprises. No credit card. No personal information. Ever.

A Keep-It-Simple Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge Brings Our New AOW and The ‘Music From Laurel Canyon’ EP, December 4, 2022

It’s Sunday morning here in The Mermaid Lounge and I’m off to a bit of a later start than usual, but that’s because we’re keeping it simple today. Somehow, it’s only fitting that Rumors is our Album of The Week this week as we bid farewell to the late, great Christine McVie. We here in the Lounge believe the best stuff on this one was hers.

Here’s today’s musical magic:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac NEW!

Sometimes things just fall into place. When I add to my album list, I sometimes add ten or twenty to the list at time so I don’t have to think about it every week. That’s what happened with Rumors. I had no idea I’d be paying respects to the late, great Christine McVie this week. It’s only fitting that this great album fell into place here. One of my favorite albums of all time for sure from a band I sometimes have a love-hate relationship with. But that’s me. Big Mac is one of those bands I liked better as a blues band. I certainly don’t like everything they did as a pop-rock band, but I like enough of it. This was their eleventh studio album and it was released during a time of heavy drug use and personal relationship management problems, hence the title. I only ever saw them once live in my lifetime and that was enough. It was just that Stevie Nicks spent too much time changing outfits for me.

4:00 p.m. Music From Lauren Canyon: Various Artists

One of the best times in music was undoubtedly the sixties and seventies, when cross-pollination was king. It was during this time that country-rock was born. You’ll hear The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, The Beach Boys, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Doors, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, CSNY, Manassas, John Mayuall, The Eagles, J.D. Souther, Harry Nilsson, Canned Heat, Carole King, James Taylor, Souther-Hillman-Furay, Linda Ronstadt and more!

This is Sunday, a day of rest, even for whomever The Big Person is is up there overlooking the universe. Why not kick off your shoes, pour yourself a drink and tune us in for a spell. Come on. You know you want to, so why not just do it. Seriously.

Things Are Rockin’ Today With Our AOW, an Outgoing and Incoming Singer-Songwriter, and Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, Saturday, December 3, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We have a rockin’ day here in The Mermaid Lounge today with CCR, Neil Young, Carole King and our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP all on tap! Read on for details!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of this album, which was actually the third album released by Creedence alone in 1969. To say they burst onto the music scene with a bang is an understatement. They never looked back. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection by the time you wake up!

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

Today our favorite musicians and singers wax poetic about the night time. Because the night time is the right time. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Neil Young FINAL AIRING!

Today we give you the final airing of our Singer-Songwriter series featuring the great Neil Young, but don’t despair. We’ve got some new-to-the-station live Neil coming up next week!

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Carole King NEW!

For our final programming act of the day, we give you our new featured Singer-Songwriter in Carole King. This will repeat two more times during the upcoming week. Times TBD.

Great day to tune us in. We’ve got lots of features on tap for today, but we still spend the majority of our 24-hour continuous cycle on wide Open Stream under the watchful eye of The Music Mermaid. And did I mention that we’re totally free of charge?

We’re On the Downslide to the Weekend With Our ‘Are You Ready for The Country’ EP, Some ‘Live’ Stephen Stills and Our AOW, Thursday, November 17, 2022

Here’s today’s lineup:

11:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

It’s that time again where we pull together the best of REAL country (not bad pop bands with fiddles) and some country-rock born of the Laurel Canyon pioneers. Who doesn’t know Stephen Stills, singer-songwriter extraordinaire who has not only had a successful solo career but has been a seminal member of several successful bands, namely Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Manassas. He has combined sales of more than 35 million albums. Tonight we bring you a Stills 2008 concert from the UK.

9:00 p.m. Album of The Week: I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama by Janis Joplin

Our second-to-last airing is tonight at 9:00 p.m., and we’ll have our last airing sometime on Saturday. If you haven’t heard this one yet, you’ve got two more before it’s gone!

The holidays are coming. Give yourself the gift of great music! And we won’t cost you a penny. We’re totally free. Yes, it’s a labor of musical love, and we’re a throwback to real radio. You know, before you paid Spotify and other services to build custom listening lists. But the best part is that we also don’t accept commercial advertising or employ overly-chatty DJ’s who talk through songs. We’re all about the music.
