Good Morning, Music Lovers! Today most of us learned of the passing of Christine McVie, whom we considered the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. She was an extraordinary talent whose roots were in the blues and today we pay her homage.

Although not the most flamboyant member of Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie was, without a doubt, the heart and soul of that band. Her original roots were in singing the blues, starting with a British blues band called Chicken Shack. She also had a solo career prior to her marriage to John McVie when she was known as Christine Perfect. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, she wrote many of their biggest hits, like Say You Love Me, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun and Don’t Stop. Christine McVie passed away on November 30 at the age of 79, leaving a hole in the music world. We pay tribute to her this evening.

Sunday in The Mermaid Lounge Brings Creedence Clearwater Revival With Our New AOW and Volume Two of The ‘Sixties Rotation’ EPs, November 27, 2022

Good Morning, Weekenders! The sun is already out here and we’ve got an easy day going today with some great music from the first generation of classic rockers with Volume Two of ‘The Sixties Rotation’ for five uninterrupted hours this afternoon.

Here’s today’s musical lineup:

11:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival NEW!

CCR, as they are popularly known, was a force in 1969, releasing three albums. Green River was one of those releases, and it gave us some great songs including the hits Bad Moon Rising and Green River, which both peaked at No. 2 on the charts. The songs Lodi and Commotion were also fan favorites, although they didn’t reach the chart status of the first two. John Fogerty was the creative force behind CCR, and he disliked the long, acid-infused jams popular at the time. CCR bucked the norm and preferred the tightly structured roots music that would actually make them famous. We love this band here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we believe they’ve never made a bad song.

Here we are at the second phase of our Sixties absorption, which mostly focuses on the mid-to-late musical portion of that decade. And yes, everybody knows that the two were a “thing” in 1968 into 1969, and that Stephen Stills wrote songs about her, namely Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and Judy. In spite of the fact that Stills has played on several of Collins’ songs, they never made an album together or toured together until 2017, with the release of this collaboration. We’ve got it for you this week.

She began that climb to the top in 1975 and was the Queen of Rock during the seventies, gracing the covers of Rolling Stone (more than once), Time, Newsweek, Cashbox, Circus, Creem and others. Maria Muldaur’s career began in Greenwich Village during the great sixties folk revival, but her repertoire is anything but limited as she’s built a career around folk, blues, country, gospel and R & B. This is Muldaur’s third studio album and it’s a beauty. She invites J. J. Cale, Waddy Wachtel, Linda Ronstadt, Bill Payne (of Little Feat), and Russ Kunkel along for the ride. Check the amazing vocals on the song Sweet Harmony, featuring Linda Ronstadt and Wendy Waldman on backing vocals, Arthur Adams on baritone vocals, and Amos Garrett on bass vocals. Amazing.
