The Dead at Shoreline again. We’ve aired a couple of others from this venue. This particular show was a benefit for the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund, and was at a time when a guy named Bruce Hornsby was on keys for the band. Enjoy.

We did several of these last year, but this is the first one we’ve done this year. The album itself was released on April 27, 1987. The single Jammin’ Me, written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, was released on April 18, 1987. It would go to no. 1 on The Billboard charts, and piss Eddie Murphy off. Neither Petty nor Dylan would back down. You simply don’t mess with Dylan’s lyrics.

Great day to tune us in, as usual. We’ve not only got the music that inspired this modest, little music station, but we celebrate a great collection of songs from our House Band! What more could you want?

3:00 p.m. The Flying Burrito Brothers Live at My Father’s Place, Roslyn, New York, November 28,1976

We’ve got a band here that helped pioneer the marriage between country and rock playing at a legendary venue. My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel opened in 1971 and “created a scene that would influence music for decades to come,” according to the New York Times. They were spot on.

7:00 p.m. In The Spotlight: The Music of Guy Clark

I remember seeing this guy one very cold, snowy night as my friends and I were freezing our asses off running round Harvard Square in Cambridge getting stoned. We were freezing and one of the greatest music venues, Passim’s Coffee House, was open and serving stuff that was warm. We went in. The cover wasn’t expensive, so we took a table. And when Guy Clark came out, someone we’d never heard before, we had our minds completely blown. He’s been a favorite ever since, and is certainly one of the greatest singer-songwriters I’ve ever experienced.

Tonight we pay respects to the great Taylor Hawkins, and sincerely hope Dave Grohl and his mates eventually pull out of this sadness and keep on keepin’ on, even though there will never be another Taylor Hawkins.

This is not a new performance, but a requested repeat. We’ve had a few people ask for this one over the past month or so. The last time we played it was back in 2020, so it’s like new. Many consider this to be the finest live Grateful Dead performance ever. I don’t know how you choose one out of the many they’ve had over the years, but here it is!
