Closing out the programming is the undisputable Queen of Soul. She’ll be here to serenade you as we close out the day’s programming and return to our wide Open Stream.

We’re off to the races this morning as I’ve been bequeathed a mission of mercy by my eldest child. They never really grow up, you know. It’s a myth. But I digress. Tune us in. We’re totally free of charge 24/7. Your money’s no good here.

At Midweek We Have Our ‘British Are Coming’ EP, A Trip Back in Time to The Monterey Pop Festival, and The McGarrigle Sisters On Tap, December 28, 2022

We’re getting close to the new year, music lovers and today we start the day with a bit of music from across the pond. Then, we move on to Monterey Pop as we celebrate festival week here. The McGarrigle sisters are our featured singer-songwriters later.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: Kate & Anna McGarrigle

We’ve Got a Full Slate With an Incoming and Outgoing Singer-Songwriter, The ‘#BecomeUngovernable House Music’ EP, and Our AOW, Saturday, December 24, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We’ve got yet another busy Saturday as we cover all the bases, including an airing of the #BecomeUngovernable House EP.

Here’s Saturday’s Lineup:

9:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg FINAL AIRING!

Dan Fogelberg takes his last turn as the featured Singer-Songwriter for this week. We debut a brand new singer-songwriter later on this evening.

2:00 p.m. #BecomeUngovernable House Playlist: Various Artists

This is the music that inspired us to start this radio station. It’s all here with Barry McGuire, The Temptations, Edwin Starr, Peter Tosh, The Beatles, Genesis, T-Rex, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Country Joe & The Fish, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Joan Baez, CSNY, Pink Floyd, The Animals, Ten Years After, The Plastic Ono Band, Billy Joel, George Harrison, Sam Cooke. The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Marvin Gaye, The Association, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Pete Seeger, The Band, Nina Simone and more!

9:00 p.m. Album of the Week: Goodbye and Hello by Tim Buckley FINAL AIRING!

Tim Buckley also takes his final turn around the sun with our Album of The Week. A brand new one waits on deck for its debut on Sunday morning!

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Kate & Anna McGarrigle NEW!

Tonight we debut two of the most brilliant and influential singer-songwriters on the planet, the McGarrigle sisters. They have written some of Linda Ronstadt’s most iconic songs, including Heart Like A Wheel and You Tell Me That I’m Falling Down, but their songs have been recorded by many, many other artists as well. They also have had a successful career all their own, and you’ll hear them sing their own songs tonight.

We’re raring to go headlong into another year. It will be our sixth, but we’ve got another whole week left in 2022 and plenty of music to share. We’ve got some special stuff lined up for next week as we celebrate Music Festival Week. Stay tuned!

We Bring a Psychedelic Perspective to the Midweek and It’s Dan Fogelberg’s Second Airing as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter, On Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Good morning, lovers of psychedelia! This is one of my all-time favorite playlists here. We also give the ridiculously underrated Dan Fogelberg a second airing as our featured singer-songwriter.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. The Psychedelic Express: Various Artists

Yes, get on board the Psychedelic Express with us today to the innovators who managed to combine chemicals and composition. Some even lived to tell the tale. You’ll hear Vanilla Fudge, The Chambers Brothers, The Beatles, the Electric Prunes, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Blues Image, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Donovan, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic, Cream, Dr. John, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Canned Heat, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Tommy James & The Shondells, Mudcrutch, Blind Faith, the Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Big Brother & The Holding Company and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg

There’s a big campaign out there on social media to get Dan Fogelberg inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Considering the fact that they’ve inducted rap artists, ignoring a guy like Dan Fogelberg seems even more ridiculous. But then again, they didn’t induct Linda Ronstadt until she could no longer sing, and it took Carole King until 2021. These are WTF moments for me. Nevertheless, hope springs eternal. We love Dan Fogelberg here in The Mermaid Lounge, and we play his music for you tonight.

Midweek is here, meaning we’ll be on the downslide to the holiday weekend come Thursday. Life is good. And so is our radio station. We’re totally free 24/7 with no strings and no surprises. We play the best damned music on the planet. When we’re not running a program, The Music Mermaid is totally in charge of streaming. She spins he wheel and we see where it lands.

Saturday Brings the ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ EP, Volume Three of The Heartbreakers’ Fillmore Adventure, and Dan Fogelberg as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter as the Holidays Approach, December 17, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists across the globe! Hope you’re all doing well as we tee it up in The Mermaid Lounge this morning. We’ve got a pretty full slate peppering our great wide Open Stream (a little Tom Petty imagery there).

Here’s your Saturday lineup:

10:00 a.m. Are You Ready for The Country: Various Artists

We’re talking real country here. And we’re also talking about the pioneers of country-rock who made it happen from the cross-fertilization center of the world: Laurel Canyon. You’ll hear Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Pure Prairie League, Asleep at The Wheel, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Marshall Tucker Band, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Glen Campbell, Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg, New Riders of The Purple Sage, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, The Desert Rose Band and more!

4:00 p.m. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA 1997, Volume Three NEW!

The third and final installment as we roll out the brand new Heartbreakers’ compendium of their legendary 20-night residency as The Fillmore House Band. They threw away the script and kicked ass, and every one of them felt it was the most creative opportunity the band had, and the highlight of their time together. For the first time ever, there are more cover songs on a Heartbreakers album than original compositions. That was by design as they chose to pay homage to those artists who inspired them. They are, in our humble opinion, the best cover band on the planet.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Dan Fogelberg NEW!

It’s time to flip the switch to a new featured singer-songwriter, and Dan Fogelberg is one of the most underappreciated. Except here in The Mermaid Lounge, where we made him one of the very first artists to have a ‘Spotlight.’ Today he starts a week in the spotlight as our featured singer-songwriter.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Dixie Chicken by Little Feat FINAL AIRING!

Tonight we bit a fond farewell to one of our favorite albums and bands as we close out this week’s featured album. We’ll be back tomorrow with a brand new selection.

Saturday is always a bit of a busy day here in The Mermaid Lounge, but we never have more programming than open stream in a 24-hour cycle. We also never run commercial advertising or emply overly-talkative DJ’s. We just play music. Free of charge 24/7. No lie. No surprises. No credit card. No personal information. Ever.

We are at Midweek With The Ladies Fully in Charge Today, and Warren Zevon as Our Featured Singer-Songwriter Later, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022

Here we are at midweek with an expanded ‘Ladies Day Out’ EP, so the women are even more large and in charge today. Later, we give Warren Zevon the stage for the second time as our featured Singer-Songwriter.

Here’s your midweek lineup:

10:00 a.m. Ladies Day Out: Various Artists UPDATED!

We’ve undertaken a modest update with our all-women EP here by adding Ellen McIlwaine, Christine McVie, and some reggae artists like Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt (also known as the I-Threes). There will be another update coming. Other artists you will hear include Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Emmylou Harris, Petula Clark, Laura Nyro, Cilla Black, Irma Thomas, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Carole King, Maria Muldaur, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Eva Cassidy, Wendy Waldman, Shawn Colvin, The Ronettes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Norah Jones, Phoebe Snow, Nicolette Larson, Sheryl Crow, Valerie Carter, Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Warren Zevon

Warren Zevon gets the stage for the second time as this week’s featured Singer-Songwriter in our series. Linda Ronstadt recognized his immense songwriting talents by recording Carmelita and Poor Poor Pitiful Me, Hasten Down The Wind and Mohammed’s Radio. (I love them all but I think Mohammed’s Radio is brilliant.) Warren Zevon also had a great solo career, starting off with his breakthrough album, Excitable Boy, one of our all-time favorites. Tune him in.

Yeah, after today, we’re on the downslide to the weekend and everything gets better from here. Before, in between, and after we have The Music Mermaid at the helm. She has impeccable taste in music, as you well know by now.

One Day Away From the Weekend With Our ‘Travelin’ Fever’ Multi-Artist EP and Carole King’s Final Airing as Singer-Songwriter, Friday, December 9, 2022

We are one day away from the official start of the weekend. Of course, some of us will toil in retail hell for one more day tomorrow, but we’re getting closer. We’ve got a lot of wide Open Stream today with some excellent programming tossed in for good measure.

Here’s your musical journey for today:

11:00 a.m. Travelin’ Fever: Various Artists

Stories about the road, the air, the sea, and going places from Canned Heat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Doors, The Eagles, Little Feat, The Band, Willie Nelson, Edwin Starr, Janis Joplin, Guy Clark, The Byrds, Asleep at The Wheel, The Traveling Wilburys, Joan Baez, Mudcrutch, Loggins & Messina, Buffalo Springfield and more.

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Carole King

Today we bid a fond farewell to Carole King as our featured Singer-Songwriter, a woman whose music has been both an inspiration and a musical career builder. Tomorrow we welcome the late, great (and often troubled) Warren Zevon.

Before, in between and after we’ve got some great wide Open Stream, which has recently been significantly bolstered. This is not the place to detail that, but I will be writing a separate blog post on that very soon, so stay tuned! We’ve added some great artists we’ve been working on and bolstered the content of many others!

And Boom. It’s Monday. We’ve Got ‘Live’ Kinks, Our ‘Money Honey’ Playlist, and Carole King. And Plenty of Open Stream, December 5, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists. (And haters of Monday mornings.) We cannot flirt with time and make this another day, but we can help you get through this one with some good music.

Here’s today’s musical mashup:

11:00 a.m. The Kinks Live at The Hippodrome Theatre, London, UK, July 14, 1974 NEW!

This is a brand new one to us here in The Mermaid Lounge. As I said, we shop on a bunch of venues (of which Amazon and Apple are not part) and we have access to some cool stuff once in a while. This will be an experience we have together as we’ve not had the time to preview this one.

3:00 p.m. Money, Honey: Various Artists

This one could easily become an EP. Along with love and heartache, money and wealth are popular topics for the rockers. But we try to resist making every single topic an EP and will probably settle for a volume two so we can spread the wealth. At any rate, you will hear Elvis Presley, the Guess Who, The Beatles, Warren Zevon, Monty Python (yes, that Monty Python), Tom Petty, Tom Waits, The Byrds, Slim Harpo, Rosanne Cash, Albert King, Tom Rush, The Wallflowers, Allen Toussaint, Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Laura Nyro and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Carole King

This is our second airing of this week’s featured Singer-Songwriter, and a brilliant one at that. We will have one more airing of this later in the week. Time TBD.

We begin yet another work week as we mosey through the month of December and head for a new year. But we still have the (ugh) holidays to get through. I suppose if I didn’t work in retail, I may feel differently about them. But I digress. Did I mention that we’re totally free of charge? That’s one thing you won’t have to worry about. Paying for your music. We realize we have limitations compared to Spotify and others, but this is radio, and radio is where you don’t exactly know what song is coming next. Reminds me of my youth laying in the driveway with my friends listening to my old transistor. Good times.

Things Are Rockin’ Today With Our AOW, an Outgoing and Incoming Singer-Songwriter, and Our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP, Saturday, December 3, 2022

Good Morning, Musicologists! We have a rockin’ day here in The Mermaid Lounge today with CCR, Neil Young, Carole King and our ‘Here Comes The Night’ EP all on tap! Read on for details!

Here’s your musical lineup:

9:00 a.m. Album of The Week: Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival FINAL AIRING!

Today is the final airing of this album, which was actually the third album released by Creedence alone in 1969. To say they burst onto the music scene with a bang is an understatement. They never looked back. Tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new selection by the time you wake up!

11:00 a.m. Here Comes The Night: Various Artists

Today our favorite musicians and singers wax poetic about the night time. Because the night time is the right time. You’ll hear The Traveling Wilburys, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Cliff, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, the J. Geils Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Them, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, The Kinks, the Electric Prunes, Phoebe Snow, Joe Walsh, The Eagles, The Ronettes, John Cougar Mellencamp, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, The Doors, Poco, Neil Diamond, The Animals, The Band, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Neil Young FINAL AIRING!

Today we give you the final airing of our Singer-Songwriter series featuring the great Neil Young, but don’t despair. We’ve got some new-to-the-station live Neil coming up next week!

10:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Carole King NEW!

For our final programming act of the day, we give you our new featured Singer-Songwriter in Carole King. This will repeat two more times during the upcoming week. Times TBD.

Great day to tune us in. We’ve got lots of features on tap for today, but we still spend the majority of our 24-hour continuous cycle on wide Open Stream under the watchful eye of The Music Mermaid. And did I mention that we’re totally free of charge?

It’s Saturday and We’ve Got One Outgoing and One Incoming Singer-Songwriter, and Our Multi-Artist ‘The British Are Coming’ EP, November 26, 2022

Here we are again on Saturday. Seems weird this week with a Thursday holiday. I’m all discombobulated. But the good news is that I’m completely aware of what’s going on here musically. And it’s all great stuff.

Here’s today’s programming:

8:00 a.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Nanci Griffith

Today is the final airing of the late, great Nanci Griffith as our featured singer-songwriter. Get in on this one if you’ve got the time this morning. We’re starting a bit earlier than usual.

11:00 a.m. The British Are Coming: Various Artists

We’re back with our tribute to the British Invasion and beyond with today’s EP. You’ll hear the music of The Beatles, The Who, Dave Mason, Electric Light Orchestra, Petula Clark, The Zombies, The Hollies, Dusty Springfield, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Queen, The Dave Clark Five, The Bee Gees, The Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, George Harrison, Them, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Badfinger, The Yardbirds, Traffic, Elton John, Lulu, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Animals, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, Donovan and more!

7:00 p.m. Singer-Songwriter Series: The Music of Neil Young NEW!

Tonight we bring in the new featured singer-songwriter, Neil Young, undoubtedly a Mermaid Lounge favorite. He’s in very good standing here. The Mermaid herself is very fond. Some days we have to keep her from turning this into Neil Young Radio. We’ve got a great set list on tap for tonight.

10:00 p.m. Album of The Week: Everybody Knows by Stephen Stills & Judy Collins

To close it out, we’ve got the final airing of this week’s Album of The Week by Stills and Collins. We’ll have a new album ready to roll in the morning.

Before, in between and after we’ve got our great Wide Open Stream under the guidance of The Music Mermaid, and you know she has impeccable taste. We are free 24/7 and we’re never off the air. We do not clog up the music pipeline with commercial advertising, and your money (and credit cards) are no good here.
