The Dead at Shoreline again. We’ve aired a couple of others from this venue. This particular show was a benefit for the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund, and was at a time when a guy named Bruce Hornsby was on keys for the band. Enjoy.

We did several of these last year, but this is the first one we’ve done this year. The album itself was released on April 27, 1987. The single Jammin’ Me, written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, was released on April 18, 1987. It would go to no. 1 on The Billboard charts, and piss Eddie Murphy off. Neither Petty nor Dylan would back down. You simply don’t mess with Dylan’s lyrics.

Great day to tune us in, as usual. We’ve not only got the music that inspired this modest, little music station, but we celebrate a great collection of songs from our House Band! What more could you want?

Released in 1975, Common Sense is John Prine’s fourth studio album. It was produced by Steve Cropper and recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis and Larabee Stuios in Los Angeles. The album features help from old friends Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, and bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn who played in Booker T. & The MG’s with Cropper. John Prine was a master at his craft, a master storyteller with a wry sense of humor who always had something to say. His masterpiece, Angel From Montgomery, helped put Bonnie Raitt on the map.

I can vividly remember seeing this amazing band live at The Paradise in Boston back in the day. Man, there were people dancing on the tables they were so good. But they have made many albums and many live appearances over their half a century in music and, while we do have some of their stuff floating around our stream, I have a vast collection about to make it’s mark on our airwaves. Stay tuned. This is just the beginning.
